I bought some of these foot switches a while ago and never used them, until I noticed this board. Does this simply require omitting the on board LED? Or does it need to be shorted or something?

It’s been a minute since I used one but I had adjusted the resistor to taste. And jumpered the LED pads on the PCB I believe, Is this the technically correct way? Not 
on that. I don’t remember how I came to that conclusion.
if I remember correctly Red required a lower value resistor to achieve my desired brightness.

Yeah, if you’re using an illuminated switch then, yes, you have to jumper the built-in LED spot on the PCB.
