Can you sub a Radial 100uf 35V in its place ?

I have a rolling screen issue on my Rocktron All Access midi pedal...Jim Chowning told me to replace like 5 caps that leak go bad after 20 years...they are the Tantalum ones in the midi controller

The circuit isn't gonna care whether it's radial or axial, but if the original voltage-rating is 35v I'd use 35v or 50v if it'll fit and I don't have the 35v.

I'll sub tants for electrolytic if I need to conserve space or if the cap is in the audio path; from what I've read/been-told, tants sound better than the electro — though I've yet to A/B compare them myself.

Thank you very much for your answer Mr Feral Feline !

Yea Jim at Rocktron said the same thing...i have like 5 caps that are suspect , since clipping out i think C12 some RA thing for the EU...?

Heres my project...its a Rocktron All Access midi pedal that the screen is rolling..or pulsing..?

Those Tantalum caps go bad....on my Multivalve i clipped out C17..and fixed the problem , so i suspected it was a cap issue likely again

I do have room to put the tall skinny 100uF as a replacement

Heres the Multivalve cap that goes bad ...C17 going to the LM317 chip

Heres a vid of the problem

That's not a cap problem!

Tantalum caps don't leak when they get old, aluminum caps do that. Tantalum caps live forever if you don't abuse them with overvoltage or high temperatures.

Thats what i read in that article..they are a step up and better than the Aluminum caps...

The units been setting in the hot warehouse in a case here in Fl...summers been pretty brutal , just going off what Jim told me and what ones to change...i bet the one you can see in my 1st pic is the culprit..i just have a feeling, its on the screen PCB...ill swap that one out 1st and plug in a see

On the Tantalum caps...is there a + side to them ? I have the schematics but its been our busiest week this year this week so i can only pop on here and there...late night tonight again....so my eyes will be to tired to look and study them until the weekend

You know .....i never got into them shows for some reason...but Chuck is our Fleet Commander for sure ! salute !!

Reporting to learn today sir ! lol

Tantalum caps HAVE +/- !

Most definitely, and I've read that if you install one wrong, the smell is spectacular when it releases its magic smoke.

Every tant cap I have used for pedal building has had a +/- indicated by a nearly invisible (+) mark on the cap itself but also with the longer anode leg.

I replaced those caps...went super smooth with the right tools to do the job....with that Hakko de solder gun im feel very confident on a PCB board...on and off in seconds...its a good investment...its quick easy and i like that !

Anyways...still same issue so i emailed Jim at Rocktron ..whats next for me to do....
