So does that mean I should consider one of my very hot J111 instead? Would that be better with a very high Vp or will J112 just be fine? Should I select J112 for a higher Vp from a few specimens? Cheers

Something like this is a common scenario (not from a FuzzFace but similar idea). The added resistor R10 means that there will still be audible volume when vol pot is dialed all the way down. Note that the overall resistance to ground changes, so again, if you apply this it depends what and where...

If you add a resistor in series with pot lug to ground (usually lug 1 on vol pot) that can be done I'd say. Got a schematic and pot values for being a bit more precise?
