breadboarding (tone bender MkII, MkI, fuzz face, big muff)

well, someone has to love it. just went through some more demos and i’m hearing a common theme from this family of Mk1/Zonk: - somewhat gated - overly saggy - that ‘velcro’ / stickyness descriptor - ducking under power chord / big low end. none of which are things i look for or enjoy in a fuzz...

    AionFX Comet (legacy) aka DS-1

i'm the reverse, used to love my old DS-1 (bought in 2005). first pedal i ever bought. played the heck out of it and made it do everything into a solid state bass amp when i was too poor to get a real guitar amp. but now the love just isn't quite there. i bought one to re-check and yeah nah. is...

breadboarding (tone bender MkII, MkI, fuzz face, big muff)

my first attempt at mkii a few months ago didn’t go so well, and i reckon it’s 100% because the transistors i was using didn’t have enough leak (and gain probably), cos yeah it was gated and shitty. but this time, i’ve got heaps more sustain and wiggle room in the bias/voltages and now its...

breadboarding (tone bender MkII, MkI, fuzz face, big muff)

following the success and satisfaction i’ve had playing with the fuzz face, i thought i might have a go at a mk1 tone bender.... 😅 i’d recently got a bag of GT404B NPN Ge, measured them up, with good gains (60-110) and relatively high leakage (160-200ish). (although these values might be a...

DEMO Breadboard builds [Boss MT-2 Metal Zone Bonanza + mods //// JCM800 Pedal /// EAE Model feT]

since I felt this circuit was worth highlighting, i decided it was most relevant to post about it on this thread. firstly, many thanks to @Robert for making the schematic available so soon 🙏 initial speculations on the circuit/build discussed here...

    MC33178 or ...

doubtful that it matters. i could plop some different opamps in the one i’ve breadboarded and see if there’s any difference? so far 4558 and LF353 sounds prettty good!

    Best Opto-coupler for Dyana-Ross compressor?

not even curmudgeon. legit this shit is a serious problem, and it does my fucken head in that not only the dumbass masses cheer it on, there are otherwise 'intelligent' peers around you that think all of this is completely fine and often participate in it. and then unless you can be fucked...

    Muff clipping diodes & LEDs

same. cannot be overstated how valuable and worthwhile breadboarding is. and not only does it help you learn and explore circuits/mods a lot quicker, it gives you the option to try out and play a circuit that you might not normally care for or commit to building. really opens things up.

Tubes 101 - Intro to Tube Preamp Design

+1 e.g. C6 isn't seeing 250V. it's only seeing the relative voltage difference between each side of R11. (the 250V value is with respect to ground, i.e. the difference between the high voltage/B+ rail and ground is 250V, but the difference between B+ rail and V2B plate is a lot less than...

    Muff clipping diodes & LEDs

no solder required. the 'trace lines' are already there. that's the point. in this transparent board you'll see that the numbered rows / 'trace lines' have continuity. (a, b, c, d, e all have continuity), and each numbered row is isolated / insulated from each other. so on this board, there's...
