First actual PPCB build! Deflector Reverb-bbb-bb

Yep, I guess this is the first actual PPCB project I’ve had occasion to post on here. There will be more to follow…eventually;) It’s the Deflector Reverb. I made it for a friend who used to have the EQD version, so I used the Afterneath control names figuring he’d already be familiar with them...

HM2 / Promethium distortion mod - bypass distortion?

Was planning to do the same mod to an HM-2 (I’ve got the Aion Graviton board) I’m about to build, and figured I’d post here rather than start another thread. Does the above sketch look correct for this?

    SuperHeterodyne Receiver: "Cuckoo PLL"

Excellent work! We see Yellow Billed Cuckoos pretty regularly here (central TX) and we can get Black Billed in migration. Fun birds to see despite them seeming a bit evil;) I’ve got one of these (Madbean Tone Virus board) near to being built. Biggest challenge so far has been squeezing all that...

    Chalumeau LDR Suggestions

I think the issue (based on this and other LDR-related threads I’ve perused) is not so much about being able to find the specs for a given LDR, but more about trying to figure out what specs you should be shooting for for a given project. The Pitch Witch doc at least list the LDR value as 1M...

    Chalumeau LDR Suggestions

Yeah, was just going to say GL5528 is what I’ve seen recommended for the Pitch Witch (Pirate). Figured there’s a good chance Chalumeau (Clarinot) uses the same one.

    Superfuzz-ish circuit?

Yeah, Superfuzz is one of my all time favorites (BYOC Leeds Fuzz was the 2nd thing I ever built), but the “octave” part of it is pretty subtle to my ears. Foxx Tone is an equally excellent fuzz with a much more noticeable octave. You can also get some cool metallic (vaguely ring mod-ish)...

Do you prefer lead or lead-free solder?

The real question: to you prefer lead or rhythm solder?

Learning everything all over again with the Tri-Vibe

Looks good! 👍 I like Univibes and variants, but they always sound much more like “wonky phaser” to me than anything approaching actual pitch vibrato. It wasn’t until I built a VB-2 clone (I did the old BYOC one, PPCB has the VIIB) that I had something that sounded like what I thought a vibe...

I’m sure we’ve all edoid it once or twice;)

SOLVED Kliche Mini SE No Sound, Even When Bypassed

Just for posterity, and anyone searching in the future, you mean the diode on the bottom left (D101), right?

    Aged Carbon Film Resistors

I live down the street from Franklin BBQ. I just slip ‘em a few bucks to toss my resistors in the pit next to the briskets. Ohmic smoke ring or GTFO!!

Lost friction in potentiometer after cleaning

Hitting it with some Deoxit F5 Faderlube, after the D5, can sometimes restore the “feel”.

    Jlcpcb and tariffs

They’ve raised the tariffs, but they fired all the customs inspectors. So it’s a wash! ;)

    My Procrastinator is distorted

I usually have problems with my distorters being procrastinated… On a more slightly on-topic note, I built a Slow Gear clone several years ago. It was one of two boards ever where I etched my own PCB. And that’s how I learned that was one step farther (specifically the drilling of the billions...

Explain like I'm 5, what is going on in this pedal to make is sound like this, please?

The PPCB Minnow might also be worth a look. It’s based on a Tom Oberheim designed filter, and it’s got some cool modulation options as well. The Korg MS-20 filter is another synth classic that seems to pop up in DIY somewhat frequently. Not sure if anyone currently sells a guitar friendly PCB...

Dumb this down for me (Audio Probe) I'm confused

This is basically the approach I take when I’m troubleshooting at work (maintenance Electrician is my day job) - Divide the circuit in half, figure out if the problem is in the 1st or 2nd half, then keep dividing it into half sections until you locate the fault. For audio probing, I just...

Any awesome secret (enclosure) sanding tips?

I feel like that would interfere with the etch-ability just a tad ;) @mkstewartesq Those are impressively shiny! How long does it take you to get one that mirror-ific?

Any awesome secret (enclosure) sanding tips?

I appreciate the experimenting 👍 So there really isn’t ’one simple hack Big Enclosure doesn’t want you to know about’.
