Yeah, Superfuzz is one of my all time favorites (BYOC Leeds Fuzz was the 2nd thing I ever built), but the “octave” part of it is pretty subtle to my ears. Foxx Tone is an equally excellent fuzz with a much more noticeable octave. You can also get some cool metallic (vaguely ring mod-ish)...

Hitting it with some Deoxit F5 Faderlube, after the D5, can sometimes restore the “feel”.

The PPCB Minnow might also be worth a look. It’s based on a Tom Oberheim designed filter, and it’s got some cool modulation options as well. The Korg MS-20 filter is another synth classic that seems to pop up in DIY somewhat frequently. Not sure if anyone currently sells a guitar friendly PCB...
