A couple of new amps - not 100% finished but making sound

Looking sweet! Since I just finished my 5F6-A bassman board today, I think your foil end is wrong in one spot..... This is a layout showing the proper bassman foil end directions. Since Jim Marshall admitted he copied this design when making the JTM45..... And but of course a pic of the...

    Solid aluminum Chickenhead knobs!

I just got my Dunlop 65 lemon oil and Tun-Sol reissue 5AR4 from CE today for the Bassman I'm building. I needed five more bucks to make the $50 minimum and I've never tried it on my necks. Always just used wax, but I hear it works well.

    Solder fume extractor

I have the small Weller, it has a very powerful fan, and it's noisy. I hate it. It works great tho. Funny thing, I ordered a 36" zline hood in 2011 when I bought my $6100 American Range stove with a 12" BARBEQUE GRILL in the center. Long story short, I was sick on Turkey day, forgot the...

    Fancy Solder Sucker

It has a much stronger spring, I am amazed at how well they work. I picked mine up off of eBay for about $12 two years ago.

    Powering pedals with coin cells

Just a word of caution, small children think they are candy. They are often fatal to those that eat them.

    What's on the workbench?

Thanks! The splotches are gone now that it's completely dried. The streak is sunlight. In the background is my felker wet tile saw that I use for G10 circuit board cutting, and of course tile and brick. And my grizzly 220v 2.5 hp 10" table saw. When you hit the power it goes BANG and is...

    What's on the workbench?

Hand sanded to 360 and stained the cab for my 5F6-A non-kit build with Varithane gunstock stain after using their wood conditioner for soft woods before staining. Still wet-ish in this pic, it's more uniform and slightly redder and lighter now. Contemplating whether I'll do a second coat or...

SOLVED Tube Identification based on circuit

Well this is much easier to understand. I was totally confused by the PTP wiring.... There's actually a forum group of people that prefer this type of wiring over circuit boards. I was amazed by that. The main reason they touted was "it takes too long to make a circuit board". Umm... I can...

SOLVED Tube Identification based on circuit

I see what you mean. I am unfamiliar with the preamp tube, but there are several designs I've seen where the DC in the tube is chained to the next tube. In this case I'm thinking the primaries for that weird second transformer (never seen anything like this) connect through the tube to supply...

SOLVED Tube Identification based on circuit

Negative feedback is the name of the process where an inverse wave form is fed back into the signal. Why? If you take the same wave form, and run it through two different speakers pointed at each other, and one of the speakers has the hookup to the amp reversed, there will be no sound! The...

SOLVED Tube Identification based on circuit

The Cathode is the ground for the tube, and controls the frequency response. This is a quote I copied a while ago to help me keep things straight in my mind. Pic at the bottom is a layout I did of the Fender Champ I'm *going to be* making, eventually. I have so many projects in the queue...

SOLVED Tube Identification based on circuit

Can't wait to hear it, such a simple design! This is what I use to test my capacitors at full voltage for leakage before I use it in an amp. I test *everything*. Pots, switches, caps, resistors, tubes, jacks, fuses in the holder (a two fer), output transformer for continuity in the primary...

SOLVED Tube Identification based on circuit

I have a VERY high tolerance to alcohol and drugs. I watched the whole procedure, including the polyp removal, and when wheeled to the recovery room started to get up. The nurse said "whoa, hang on there, you can't be ready yet. Squeeze my finger." I started to squeeze and she said "OK STOP...

SOLVED Tube Identification based on circuit

DIY layout creator, ah I checked the facebook page it's by Doug Hoffman. I used to buy components from him 20 years ago before I got a business license and a wholesale account with CE Dist. He's a really great guy, runs the EL34world forum. I thought I had it on this machine but I think it...
