    Simulcast/Broadcast Silicon Mod?

I've been drawing up a Vero layout to test this circuit without the transformer. It's ended up bigger than I like but it's quite tricky to fit into a Vero. Now to try it.

    Simulcast/Broadcast Silicon Mod?

Sorry - got confused. Easily done for me. I've been looking closer at the schematic and now realise that the"string of resistors and caps" was indeed the diodes and caps for the charge pump. Don't mind me - I can be really thick sometimes!🤪 Time for a ride on my bike to clear my head.

    Simulcast/Broadcast Silicon Mod?

What's with the filtering? Why use a string of 10µF caps separated by resistors? I'm not being snarky! I just don't know why you would do that, and there is probably a very good reason of which I am unaware.

What's your favorite Fuzz Face build?

For a simple, no frills but easy to get working fuzz I'd suggest the Sandspur, with the proviso that you might need to add a small cap to the second transistor to tame weird noises. For an amazing OD/fuzz which is based on a Fuzzface Chuck is right - the Skreddy Screwdriver is fantastic. And for...

What to do with these tubes?

You know the christmas ornament idea is not so silly - I think a lot of these tubes are quite attractive. I've seen people make little figures out of transistors and resistors, so why not with tubes? You could make some '50s sci-fi robots with them. If you were keen you could even work out a way...

Unusual activity with Klone in bypass mode.

Sorry - went off-topic. Yeah as Svenson007 says, they are very different pedals. But Klons have always worked for me as far as I can remember except for the bit where I want to use them. I have friends who rave about them but they do nothing for me.

    Tonebender with sputtery/gates fuzz

Every Russian transistor I have is CBE. If looking from underneath with the pins making a V shape (B being the point at the bottom of the V) they are C-B-E. I've never had a Russian transistor in a different configuration, although it is of course possible that they exist!

    Kliché Mini Noob Issues

No... not... the dark side?? I've honestly never seen that happen when soldering pots. To me it would indicate taking too long and overheating the joint.

    Kliché Mini Noob Issues

You might be right. Why is there solder on the legs of the pots on the underside where they emerge from the pot? That's not normal.

Unusual activity with Klone in bypass mode.

The main problem I have had with Klones is that I never like them. I've built a few... The one which really bums me out is the Duocast. I've built three. The first one worked perfectly except I used a 3-way switch instead of a DPDT. The second never worked at all. Not a peep. Checked component...

Help me understand this schematic (Mach 1, Southern Belle)

Honestly we are so lucky to have folks like Chuck here. I do try to understand the theory and have read a fair bit, but I guess my mind is just not wired the right way. So I'm only partly joking when I say I just build it and listen to it. I do a lot of that. But with Chuck's guidance, dropping...

Help me understand this schematic (Mach 1, Southern Belle)

This is exactly what I do. Except for the bit before build it and listen to it.

    BC183/BC184 Sandspur/Sunface

BTW if you do use the BC183 make sure to check the pinout for the ones you're using. I think it's the BC183L which has a different pinout, but it has been a while since I used them.

    BC183/BC184 Sandspur/Sunface

What's the hfe of a BC108C? it's probably not that different. I've built one with the BC108 and it didn't knock my socks off. There's no particular mojo with a BC108 as far as I can see. Or hear. Some of my favourite Big Muff style pedals have been made with much lower hfe transistors than...

Does the Marsh Fuzz really need all that filtering?

Well obviously you gotta have spares! Yeah I was wondering about the two 100K and the 12R4 too. Actually did a double take at the double 100K. Maybe 200K resistors aren't available in Brazil? Maybe 12R4 resistors are extremely hip with the kids? Especially in series with a pot! They speak...

Does the Marsh Fuzz really need all that filtering?

Well however it's designed I like the sound. I don't find the bias pot to be useful - Is it supposed to allow for starved transistor sounds or is it a tone-enhancing thing? It doesn't seem to do much on my pedal. And the Fuzz pot almost needs to be a C++ taper. Wouldn't that be handy?? Even...

Does the Marsh Fuzz really need all that filtering?

I pulled out my Marsh Fuzz to use today and it really is a good sounding pedal, whether used as a boost or a fuzz. So I went back to this site and looked at the schematic - does the designer have shares in an electrolytic factory? I've seen so many fuzz pedals with next to no filtering and most...

    2 in 1 help

Couple of things - The joint of the output wire at the jack is a bit messy - you don't want plastic getting in your solder joint. But obviously it's working if you're getting a bypass signal. My main area of concern would be the transistor sockets. I have always had issues with those. Why not...

Hot air gun for SMD work?

I wonder if you could use that hotplate to solder SMD transistors directly to a larger PCB? For example the Brownout OD (Subdecay Variac) has pads for SMD Jfets. Could I use the method in the clip above to solder SMD Jfets to that board? I have no experience with SMD at all - I have always...

DuoCast (But what exactly is it?)

I've used a few Callaham parts, including his steel Strat bridge. Overall I'm kinda underwhelmed with his stuff. Beautifully made usually but I don't really think the parts sound better. And the steel bridge I bought had the wrong angle for the whammy bar. It comes out at 90 degrees rather than...
