16v is fine. Voltage delivered to the circuit will be less than 9 vDC most likely and those are double that rating.

how have you been testing sound? I see the ground pads for the jacks look like they haven’t been used.

To answer your original question, the LDRs are important. The values in the build docs are all good suggestions. Do you have a data sheet for the ones you used?

Did you have a light shield when you were adjusting? It’s not required when you box it all up but during calibration and setting of the trimpots, you won’t register much change without it.

Did you adjust the trim pots?

Settled on 2kB after auditioning a few values. This made the useable gain range from about 40-100% on the dial of the gain control.

Small update: I was able to play this over the last few days and I’m going to try a 1kA pit instead of 1kC. Whereas the 1kB seemed to bunch all of the gain control toward the end, the 1kC has too much in the beginning, making the pedal a bit farty at settings I’d prefer it wasn’t. Gonna pop...

I wouldn't be chasing it if my tests with those ranges hadn't showed promise. Frankly, I think cap values and Vf have WAY more effect than the transistors but there was definitely a more than subtle difference once I went below 200 hFE on the transistors.
