Nobelium - tube bass preamp project

It's a great clean preamp, don't get me wrong, the 2-band EQ sounds a lot better than I was expecting, but there's equally good valve DI boxes for half the price (the small trees for one). Probably going to add a mids control if I can find space in the box.

Nobelium - tube bass preamp project

Finished it last night minus the transformer (on order) and yeah.... maybe I have bad ears, and I get it's main appeal is as a DI box, but... people pay $1200 for this? I'll reserve full judgement until I get the transformer in, but yeah... it's a clean tube preamp

    Bass Dude

Finished this last night and just had a good test this morning. Plugged into the power amp input of my old Peavey combo (2 x 6L6 and 2 x 12" drivers) it sounds incredible, plenty of clean/gritty space but with the gain maxed it definitely dooms on a C standard guitar with some old ECC83s (12AX7)...

Inductor and Cap specs for the C2C boards

Managed to get some 400V Wurth ones at 14mm high which might be a little snug but should work, and some 1.5A Inductors so should be all set now. I'll have to drill my own enclosures anyway so any future C2C builds I do will probably go in a 1590C which is much deeper.

Inductor and Cap specs for the C2C boards

Yeah the regulated output is what made me OK with 250V caps, just thinking about lifespan as I was always taught running a cap very near it's voltage limit will reduce it's life and it's practical voltage rating may creep down over time. Guess it's going to take a while to rack up thousands of...

Inductor and Cap specs for the C2C boards

More thinking out loud and hoping for some feedback - Sourcing parts for a few C2C boards, the inductor that's specced in from Tayda is rated at 2.1A (DC saturation current) - this one. Trying to source parts from elsewhere I can't find any 100uH inductors at 2.1A in that form factor (5mm pitch...

Nobelium - tube bass preamp project

Oh yeah, shipping cost being extortionate wasn't a jab at you at all, shipping costs what it costs, just wasn't economical for me, especially as I get heavily discounted raw enclosures. Yeah I've translated a tayda drill template before, not hard at all just a bit tedious.

Nobelium - tube bass preamp project

Thanks, managed to miss that thread! Should be able to knock up my own. I'm far from a perfectionist, I don't mind making a bit of an ugly bodge for the switch hole on the side, and I've got a big step bit I bought to do an xlr on a previous project.

Nobelium - tube bass preamp project

Sorry to pester but is there an ETA on the build doc? Could do with the drill template, I'm in the UK so getting the drilled enclosure with the PCB would have made shipping extortionate. Can figure out my own template if need be but if the build doc is in the works I can wait a few days.

    Byzantium flanger no build docs?

I'm having the same problem, it's working but there's no sweep. I've biased the output on the 3207 and I've used a known good 3102/3207 pair. I only finished it late last night so I only did quick checks but everything looked fine. Gonna take the scope to the LFO section tonight so I'll see...

    Low Tide Envelope Problems

Muchismas Gracias, looks like I've got a wild evening with the audio probe and oscilloscope in store.

    2SK208-Y available

I know the thread has drifted into a different area but just FYI, I got some 2SK208-Y from the ebay seller in the first post and they seem legit (they work at least). I'm in the UK though so the expense was minimal, not sure if they'd be worth importing into the US.

    Low Tide Envelope Problems

Think I've tracked it to the LM258 - swapped it for half an LM324 via some flying leads and it's suddenly come to life. LPG is still behaving a little odd but I'm getting wet signal that isn't just self oscillation so I'm going on the right direction. I'd still appreciate an ETA for the...

Any ETA? Or if it's just a matter of formatting would you be willing to message/email me the raw version?

    Low Tide Envelope Problems

Values all OK, no issues with the soldering. Gonna try and follow the signal path best I can with an audio probe and see if there's any joy. I guess I can understand the reasoning from a commercial perspective, and I knew it was risky, but without schematics the complex projects like this are...

    Low Tide Envelope Problems

Final parts arrived for the low tide and unfortunately its not been plug and play. The envelope/LPG part of the circuit isn't behaving, I'm only getting sound if I really dig in and then it just pushes it into momentary self oscillation. Altering the gate trimmer just changes the point at which...
