    What’s This Sound?

One of my all time favorite clean tones is the “watery” sound in the second guitar solo of Feels So Good by Chuck Mangione. It sounds like some sort of filter, but I can’t tell if it’s a phaser, flanger, vibe, or if he’s somehow doing it with a wah pedal. The rhythm guitar seems to use a wah...

    Nobelium preamp/DI

My first tube project! I’ve used the Nobel preamp/DI live for the past year or so, so I was very interested to put this project from Conspiracy to Commit electronics together. I hear very little difference between the two and might actually prefer the Nobelium slightly. It came together...

Closed Circuit Booster / Limiter compared to MBP Afterlife

The Afterlife and CCBL compression sections are both based around the NSL-32 optocoupler. When comparing the two, I noticed that they are pretty similar, with one glaring exception. Could someone help me understand what’s going on in these circled sections?

    DEMO Promethium Distortion

I typically don’t build pedals with the intent of selling them, but occasionally I get a request that I just can’t turn down, like this one from a friend’s 10yr old: I sent him some YouTube clips of a few options, and he decided on an HM-2. He wanted the Santa Cruz Skateboards screaming hand...

    Finch Compressor

I’ve been following the “Bring Out Yer DipTrace” thread (https://forum.pedalpcb.com/threads/bring-out-yer-diptrace.11287/post-183628) for a while. It’s amazing how approachable it can be to get a simple circuit board fabricated. So when a friend asked me to build him a compressor, I took the...

    Swapping Ge Diodes for Schottky

Any general guidelines for when it’s ok to swap a germanium transistor for schottky? I’ve heard that the forward voltage drop is similar (and the germanium’s are a bit all over the place anyway). Secondly, what is the purpose of these D4/D5 diodes in the signal path of the Promethium, and is it...

    Sproing dry path mods?

I’d like to insert a parallel effect into the “dry” path of the Sproing (https://docs.pedalpcb.com/project/Sproing-PedalPCB.pdf) Right now I’m thinking of using the R2 pads as Send/Receive to a daughter board. On the daughter board I’ll have R2 and I guess some coupling caps? How do I determine...

    Debugging Noise

Apart from visually inspecting joints and verifying components are correct, what is the recommended way to track down noisy components in a build? A few of my FV-1 builds are significantly noisier than others, and there has to be a better way to debug this than to just start replacing components...

    Dung Beetle

My second build in a row that I’ve boxed before I rocked and regretted it. It sounded ok, but volume wasn’t near unity even dimed and some of the controls didn’t seem to do much. Disassembled and started verifying everything. I had swapped the Volume and Fuzz pots. I saw a build report recently...

    Creamery Compressor

This is my third PPCB compressor build, after a Boneyard Delegate and Thumbsucker. They’re all great, but I find this one particularly easy to dial in. I plan to use it on my bass board. I can’t recall if it had already been mentioned here, but it is a little tough to see the orientation of...

    Sproing Deluxe Volume Boost?

I’m getting a pretty significant volume boost on the clean signal when the reverb side of my Sproing Deluxe is engaged (even with the reverb turned all the way down). Is that expected? Obviously the tremolo section has a dedicated gain control. Not sure if there’s something similar I can tweak...

    Deflector Reverb

First of all, huge thanks to the PPCB crew for making something like this possible as a DIY project! I took one listen and promptly stuck Velcro on the back of it. The artwork background is a stock image. My printer crapped out while printing the waterslide decal, resulting in lots of...

    Hydra Delay

My first build of 2023, and it’s going straight on the board. Seriously well done on this @PedalPCB! Now if only there was a way to tap in the tempo….

    [Solved] Search by SKU

Would it be difficult to index the PCB numbers for searching? I have a drawer full of PedalPCB boards, and they don’t all have the project name on them. E.g. searching for PCB052 should find DMD-2.

    Parentheses

This is definitely a must-build. Huge thanks for the notes and forum posts about germanium diode stripe orientation. Mine did indeed have the stripe on the anode. A surprisingly painless build, all things considered. Wish list: - Tip/Sleeve labels for the jack connections - It would be amazing...

    GuitarPCB Mastodon Fuzz

I got this before PedalPCB had a Wooly Mammoth board. There are some quirks, so I’d recommend buying the PedalPCB one instead now. The off board wiring is odd, and the output jack ground is not connected to the PCB ground plane. Not sure if that’s intentional or a defect. Regardless, it sounds...

    Unison

This might be my favorite modulation pedal of all time?!? It sounds great with just about everything. This was going to be an FV-1 dev board, but I botched soldering the CH341A. Salvaged the USB stuff for another go later and decided to just make this a vanilla Pythagoras.

    Grover Drive

Great, thick fuzz! Very Arizona sounding (hence the cactus). I’m a fan.

    EffectsLayouts Kentauride

Another 2-in-1 from EffectsLayouts. This one is a TS10/Klon. For the Klon side I used old 1N34a diodes from stompboxparts.com. They measured a bit all over the place, but I did find two relatively close to the target Vf of .350V on my DCA55. Sounds great! The combination was obviously inspired...

    EffectsLayouts Loyalist

Well I’m a bit late for Independence Day, but I gave this one the full ‘Murica treatment. One side is a blues breaker, and the other is a rat. They make a great combination! Sadly I swapped the label of the footswitches 🤦‍♂️ I also curse myself when doing the off board wiring every time I drill...
