    Cleaning PCB

I may get flamed for this, but I use spray brake cleaner to de-flux my PCBs. And even though the stuff I use is advertised as containing <10% VOCs, I realize it's still horribly wrong environmentally. But, I guarantee I clean waaay fewer PCBs in a year than my local auto mechanic cleans brake...

    Sourcing a CH341A

Hope you have the same good luck as I had!

    Sourcing a CH341A

I got mine from an AliExpress vendor identified only as "AliExpress-880 Store". As reported above, my results were positive - good price, speedy delivery, great communication from AliExpress and the the parts were legit. Hope you have the same good experience!

All the FV-1 boards sold out

For two bucks, it's hard to beat the good old Adafruit SP8T rotary switch, but if you want to spend a lot more, Grayhill (and others) make miniature, panel-mount rotary switches with a BCD coded output. A BCD coded switch would eliminate the diode matrix needed with the SP8T switch and let you...

    Sourcing a CH341A

Coincidentally, I got two in the mail last week (luckily, not stuck in the Suez Canal), and I just finished my FV-1 Development Board a few minutes ago, plugged it into my laptop and bingo! Worked straight away. Fwiw, you might have to install one or more drivers, available here...

Paragon Build: Hunting for the MA856 (or alternates)

I agree with Barry - no mojo in the diodes. Per the specs, MA856s are basically the same diode as a 1N914/1N4148 and the same goes for the 1S1588s used in that circuit (though I've seen builders sub 1N4001s for those - not sure why). IMHO, Analogman selected these obscure parts not so much...

    Sourcing a CH341A

Yeah, it's all about which vendor will supply legit parts in onesey-twosey quantities. Only been bit once so far with some fake MPF102 FETs. Wasn't a total loss though - they did test as good BJTs.:)

    Sourcing a CH341A

I'm going to take a gamble on the Asian vendor. I've had very good luck with them on quite a few things in the past, and it's only a couple, two/three bucks anyway. I'll let you know how it works out, keeping in mind that it might be two months till I get the part.

    Sourcing a CH341A

Points well taken. I'd be happy to use the PedalPCB development board if I could find a reliable source for the CH341A chip, which seems to be "pure unobtainium" at the moment (unless you want to trust certain Asian-based vendors). Are those chips going to be available from PedalPCB in the...

    Sourcing a CH341A

Pardon my ignorance, but I'm just in the early stages of educating myself on FV-1 programming. Can you elaborate a bit on your answer above? Like where do you connect the TRS jack on the CH341A programmer and where does it connect on the FV-1 (guessing SDA & SCL pins)? And what software do you...

    PCB Toggle Switches

Thanks! I'll do my best to chime in when I feel I have something relevant to offer. I'm involved with lots of forums, though, covering a wide variety of subjects including guitars, keyboards, recording, British sports cars and many others. And yes, I'm a big Simpsons fan!! No apologies...

Southern Belle 1n5817 schottky diode equivalent?

The 1N5817 Schottky diode in the Southern Belle is acting as reverse-polarity protection to prevent blowing up the circuit in the event you connect the 9V power supply backwards. The 9V supply must flow through this diode in order to power the circuit. However ALL diodes have a "forward voltage...

    PCB Toggle Switches

Thanks for all the info. I'm an experienced builder, having been making my own effects and other custom electronics since the '70s (yes, I'm that old), but I've never used a PedalPCB board before. Having recently retired, I've been building a lot of effects lately in an effort to make some good...

    PCB Toggle Switches

Thanks. I thought so, based on the size of the holes for the switches relative to the holes for the pots, but I wanted to be sure.

    PCB Toggle Switches

Do PedalPCB's boards accommodate toggle switches with either solder lugs or PC pins or will they only fit switches with PC pins?
