Angry Waffle/hotcake fizzy?

I've owned 5 hot cakes in my life and I don't remember any of them sounding anything like this build. Granted I used a tl071 in this build but the sound is kinda splatty and harsh, not the big fat smooth sound I remember from the hot cake.

I'm wondering if the tl071 is having a tough time. With that in mind is there anyway to know what the voltages should be across the pins? Then I can have a look around with a dmm and see if I have it wrong, or if maybe this pedal doesn't play nice with my rig.

I've built some of this clone and don't find them "harsh" at all. It's a nice "colourful clean boost" and it goes well into a little more violent distorsion. Good luck !
