BBD vs PT2399 vs FV-1. Opinions!?

I recently realized that all of my delay pedals with the exception of one have been pt2399 based. (That’s about the change as I have two Bbd builds in the works) just wondering what everyone’s takes are on the different flavors of delay.

It seems history is repeating it self… no pun intended as one of my first posts back in 2020 was about this same subject. I went on to build and buy several pt2399 pedals and still love them. Now it’s time to try out some Bbd builds.

What’s your favorite, how do they sound different to your ears?

Thank you, Thank you thank you….

I like BBDs in flangers and chorus, in delay I prefer PT2399 and the FV-1. There is a flavor with BBD delays that comes from all of the extra filtering that is required to make them function. Some people really like that sound. You owe it to yourself to build at least one and judge for yourself. Plus they are pretty rewarding projects if you like a challenge.

I find it weird that BBDs are always billed as tape delay because they are analog. If you hear actual tape delays they seem to produce high fidelity repeats, more like digital delays to my ears.

Right on.
Within a week or two I should have everything needed to complete two Bbd delays.
I do like the pt2399’s a lot, to me it is what delay sounds like in my head. And after placing these component orders Pt2399’s are way more reasonable on the bank account…. Literally had to place orders via 6 different venders to complete the part lists.

This is the first time I have wanted a Wampler pedal. This rules. And they are reasonable. $150. Heading to the web to see if someone offers a pcb on it and then the pondering back and forth spend $150 or spend $50 and build it….

It is a PT2399 chip but is converted to an Analog Path.
Wampler has been selling it in different guises for 12 years.
This is all I found?

It's like neapolitan icecream, you'll eat the whole container 'cause it's all good but wish there'd been more of one of the flavours.

You need all three types of delay on your board, and you'll use mostly one but still enjoy having the other flavours occasionally.
