I’ve been haphazardly exploring this the last couple weeks whenever I’ve a spare moment.
Can't remember where I first came across it, but it wasn't TB, though there are some threads over there about it:

Gear Watch: DMB Bumble Bass Overdrive

DMB Pedals is releasing The Bumble, a new bass overdrive pedal to their line. The pedal will be available on June 15th. The Bumble's clipping section is designed specifically for bass frequencies and uses DMB's "Class A" mixer technology for tone control. The Bumble is true bypass and runs

Seems like DMB is no more, the URL is dead and one of the TB threads mentions the company died.
Looked in the usual places (even drugscore!) for a schematic, and any info on this is just thin to non-existent.
Another problem with researching this unit is that the Union Tube & Transistor knobless thing comes up no matter how I word/modify the search.

I was going to stick this in General Questions, but at the last minute decided to just chuck it in the wish-list, where it may have wound up eventually anyway.


So I’m looking for more info on this from the PPCB-Hive, even if it’s subjective or anecdotal.
What is it based on, what's its topology and is there a gutshot anywhere?

In my meanderings I was re-reading this TB thread:

I must've scrolled immediately to the pic then down to the comments without actually reading the OP,
because re-reading it, it says right in the OP of that thread the key to this pedal. The thread-starter said he gave his pedal to @johnk_10 to trace.

It is as I suspected: Muff-Based!
From that TB thread's OP:

"John told me that it's basically a big muff without the second gain/distortion stage and that DMB redesigned it to use the blend to boost the overall output. "

I'm a JAM-tard — as in lover of Just-Another-Muff and late in the realisation. Can't wait to build it and see Robert's schematic.

So what to call it people?

Oh yeah! Hadn't listened to Yello in ages, so I just finished listening to their Virtual Concert.

FYI to those interested in this DMB Bumble — this circuit is NOT to be confused with the Propolis, which is knobless and based on the Union Tube & Transistor Bumble Buzz which is sold under Jack White's TMR brand.

Spit-ballin' more names :

LW RUMBLE FUZZ — "LW" is for Link Wray, even though I'm sure he never heard of the Bumble let alone played one, but the vibe is correct.

CRUMPLE ZONE — crushes your signal

GUMBALL — chews up your tone

MUFF-HELL — self-explanatory I think

WELCOME TO THE BUNGLE — no idea, it just popped into my head

DR. BUNDOLO'S PANDEMONIUM MEDICINE SHOW — named after a Vancouver comedy troupe, 'cause they were funny so why not?

RUMBLE STILT SKIN — whatever, spins your tone into golden strains...?


PI CRUMBLE — obvious, too on the nose or is it perfect?

SPIT-BALL — name better suited to a voltage-starved sputtery fuzz-face but ... okay fine, moving right along...

ABOMINABLE BUZZ — Yeti more to come!

BUZZ-BULL — great graphic, a bee-bull or is that bull-bee?

DEE-EHM-BEE JUMBLE — okkaydokkayyyy I got nothin' here... I should quit while Euro Head...

STRUMBULL....



I give up. Those are mostly all horrid names, and the few I liked weren't right for this circuit.


Somebody else out there come up with the perfect clever name for this pending PCB, please.
