Clipping Diodes

I currently have a bunch of diodes:
1n5817
1n4001
1n4148
1n914
3mm red led

can I use any of these for signal clipping? Thinking maybe not for the 5817 and 4001 since they appear to be mostly for polarity protection.

Yes to all of them. 1n5817 gives you hard clipping. I use them a lot.
