COMPLETE JHS Notaklon

Oh 110%, I’m actually building a Klone for a friend *specifically* with schottkys because his previous favorite Klone was the stock EHX Soul Food.

Mostly just found it interesting (and potentially a sign that mayhaps the pedal world is finally moving past the idea of “magical” parts)
I hope! I feel really sad when I see people that try to buy those old “magical” components and get scammed by sketchy sellers, and that have no idea that they have a perfectly valid and almost indistinguishable alternative, for way less money, at their reach.

What happened to the new Klon KTR that was meticulously re-engineered to use a different pair of diodes?
How long does it take to find the value of a resistor in series with the schottkys? (Rhetoric question, obviously.) :p

Then again, I may not be too meticulous about re-engineering a pedal.

The existence of the Notaklön reinforces my belief in the importance of marketing for any company.

Some people are just too good at marketing.

I just wish I had a bit of that capacity sometimes.

Absolutely, it’s brilliant. Especially getting you kids involved with it.

I got into DIY not just to try to save money, but I wanted to know why pedals worked like they do and how to mod them to sound different. I could see this Notaklon being a fun project for a beginner since it makes it about as simple as it can possibly be to "build" a pedal, but it's not teaching anyone any actual building skills. It's a pretty slick way for JHS to dip into the DIY market I though. They just order their pcbs from Cucask or whoever manufactures them then they just bag up the parts instead of assembling them in house.

I did too. All I wanted was a good compressor at an affordable price. That was like 11 years and 2 bands ago.

Do I need to buy one? Is it gonna be worth $100K in 37 years? Should I call my financial advisor? What’s gonna happen with the Chinese tariffs?!?! Send help

I won't say they're illiterate but I will question their reading comprehension. It's not that Johnny can't read, it's that Johnny doesn't understand what he just read.
