What effect on the signal path does C5 220n
have on the tone ?

I think it's purpose is to shove the DC current to GND, so not much? C6 on the other hand....

C5 is a low pass filter.

I noticed a cap in this position in several tube screamer type schematics. The pedal I am actually working on is the Honeysuckle. Since I posted my question, I studied the “Tube Screamer Circuit Analysis”. I removed six caps and put in sockets. I also socketed D3 the germanium diode. So now it is play time. I tend to like a more robust tighter distortion in general. I was also looking to get more variance out of the two switches. I succeeded !
