Hey all! Been a little bit since I've posted something, here's a project I just finished up recently for someone. It's a two-in-one, with a Cobalt drive on one side and a Bass/Treble boost on the other. I also found some cool looking textured paper that I wrapped it with, and I think it fits the vibe of the pedal nicely.

For the Blues Driver side, I wound up using @Chuck D. Bones 's mods from his breadboarding journey. I really really love the Fat and Tight switches being separate controls, and having the ability to use those independently adds a lot of tonal control to the build itself. I kept the gain pot the same since I was able to find some on StompboxParts, but I think I want to build another one of these modded Cobalts for myself with the different gain pot to see how big of a change it makes. I've also never modded a PCB like this before, so forgive my mess of wires on the inside. It was a fun, albeit challenging, task to figure out how to get everything to fit within the enclosure. Luckily there's lots of room in the 1590xx, so it wasn't too difficult of a build.

For the EQ, my friend Matt at Blind Panic Devices helped me out with this one. He had this circuit laying around already, and we worked on getting it transferred to vero and tested out. It's really more of a bass and treble frequency boost than anything else, so with both knobs fully counter-clockwise the EQ is the same as whatever the Blues Driver is set at. From there there's lots of bass and treble on tap to add to that core sound. Paired with the Fat and Tight switches you can really sculpt this thing to your liking.

I've got a couple demos to go along with it. The first one I've got the tight switch on and the treble boosted a bit, with a smidge more bass added to it. I added some drums and bass in garage band since it felt like it needed a little something as well. The second clip has the fat switch on and some extra treble and bass added too.

Sounds great!

Pretty sure I’ve got a cobalt in the pile, I’ll try to remember to look up those mods whenever I get around to building it.
