Here's what Stoll Effects say about their Mullet Drive:
Welcome to the world of Mullet Drive! Our goal was to develop an overdrive pedal that seamlessly works with both single coil and humbucker guitars. The result is this 2-channel overdrive pedal that offers a wide range of tonal variations. Whether you’re looking for a smooth, vintage overdrive or a more aggressive, modern sound, the Mullet Drive has everything you need.

YELLOW CHANNEL
The Yellow Channel of the Mullet Drive offers a unique sound experience through the use of a germanium diode and a mosfet. This combination creates an asymmetric distortion with a subtle hint of fuzz-like distortion. Originally designed for humbucker guitars, it also offers exceptional versatility and tonal richness with single coil guitars. The “dirty” sound captures the essence of classic rock tones.

RED CHANNEL
The Red Channel of the Mullet Drive offers a symmetrical mosfet distortion for a “hard” sound. It is perfect for exploring characteristic sounds of different decades, from the 60s to modern pop/rock music. With the Red Channel, you can effortlessly adjust the perfect degree of distortion to precisely express your musical style and preferences.

CASE AND DESIGN
The Mullet Drive features a handcrafted housing with a unique design, made in Germany. It showcases the precision and dedication of our craftsmen. With its robust construction, it is durable and ideal for active musicians. The model name is implemented with a unique screen-printed color gradient that looks great on any pedalboard.

PREMIUM COMPONENTS
The Mullet Drive is made with attention to detail and uses high-quality components such as Nichicon Audio Line capacitors and Amtrans resistors. Alpha Taiwan components and Neutrik jacks ensure optimal functionality and durability. With the Mullet Drive, you are investing in an effect pedal that offers exceptional sound quality and reliability.

TRANSPARENT SOUND
The Mullet Drive is based on a circuit that preserves the natural sound of your guitar. The pedal amplifies the input signal without changing the sound, allowing the unique voice of your guitar to shine through. No matter which guitar you use, the Mullet Drive creates an immersive musical experience.

Seems a bit pointless then doesn't it? If I step on a pedal I want it to change stuff otherwise why would I step on it?

To vent, out of shear frustration of your current tone, and then knowing that the pedal won't change your sound, you then proceed to stomp on it, harder and harder like the undying cockroach that it is — smashing it as though you want to send it through the concrete floor to its final resting place, stomping so hard that it doesn't matter whether you're wearing steel-toed work-boots or thin-soled sneakers, your sheer will is going to disintegrate it under your foot ... smashing it again and again and again harder and harder until it is all consuming and the only thing that matters in the universe is its total utter destruction no matter what it was made of it will become a tangled mess of crumpled-metal tangled-wire and crumbling-components nothing short of total tonal annihilation will do it will be unrecognisable it will cease to exist as a pedal indeed as anything...

This is the definition of a transparent overdrive I guess. A buzzword maybe, but used a lot on this forum. For me the videos speak for themselves.

To be fair, I'm just guessing, but ...

  • The Mullet Drive is based on a circuit that preserves the natural sound of your guitar.
  • The Yellow Channel of the Mullet Drive offers a unique sound experience through the use of a germanium diode and a mosfet.
  • The Red Channel of the Mullet Drive offers a symmetrical mosfet distortion for a “hard” sound.
Pin 1 of the IC on the right goes to a 10K resistor, then on to the clipping section. There is a handful of components in that surrounding area that also somewhat point to the OCD as a possibility.

We'll find out eventually, right now I'm focused on that Hello Kitty Fuzz...... 🤣
