Panspermia (Seppuku Space Fuzz) transistor hfe?

Hello all,

Ive been scouring the ol’ interwebs and cannot seem to find an optimal range for the hfe of the three transistors for the build. It calls for three 2n5088’s, and that’s what I used but it just sounds crazy. Having not played around with the original Seppuku, I’m not sure how it’s supposed to sound but mine sounds nuts. It’s got loads of fuzz if I barely turn the sustain knob to 1. Not even sure how I describe it when sustain is turned higher.

I don’t suppose anyone can offer any feedback?

It is supposed to sound that way. It is an insanely over the top octave up fuzz. Silicon transistors like the 5088 are rarely measured in circuits like this. It's unlikely that you would hear much of a difference swapping out different transistors of the same type.
