Pnp vs. npn

Just bought the tone bender mk2 pcb. I’m on small bear electronics looking for parts and I noticed there’s both pnp and npn bundles for the germanium transistors. I’ve looked it up and roughly understand what they do but I don’t know how it applies to pedals. Which one do I need? Difference between the two? Does it really even matter? Thanks dudes

The main difference is the polarity. PNP are positive ground, while NPN are negative.

The PCB you bought will need a PNP transistor. Note, you may need to run it on a separate power supply in your signal chain.
