Pot Legs very long

Hello all, building a mercurial boost circuit over here
I am a circuit newbie and have a very basic question- the legs on my b10k pot are really long- what is the best way to wire it to my PCB? (picture of long legs attached- I couldn't even find an example online with a pot that had legs like this)
Can I trim the legs and rest the pot on the board, or would it be better to solder wires to the legs and attach the wires? My hesitation with the second option is having a component "unattached" to the boards and that being a weak spot when the pcb is moved.

This is what you need

The only option with the long leg version would be to cut a section out of middle and resolder them!

trim the length as needed, but make sure you leave enough to go through the PCB holes while your pot is sitting on the PCB.
