Trouble finding 2N2222’s & 2N3904 in 150-200 hfe range

Like the title suggests, I can’t seem to find many 2N2222 or 2N3904 with hfe between 150-200. They’re typically much higher like high 200’s up to high 400’s. Been to Small Bear, Tayda, Pedal Hacker etc. Seems like out of a batch of 25 I’ll get maybe 3 in that range. Rest are way higher.

Any one have any luck finding these in the 150-200 hfe range? Or perhaps a fitting substitute thats a bit lower than what I’ve been getting?

The 2n3700 is my favorite low gain silicon for fuzz.

Try 2n2903, they’re max 200 hfe @ 10v, 2n3904 is 400 max

How many do you need? I have about 1000 metal can 2N2222's. Just tested a handful with my cheapo tester and they range from 100 to 200
