I did a bit of reading up on this, and UT&T say that their secret is in the custom vactrols that they have made for this. Me, personally, I view that as a challenge—but it could be a detriment to our diy process. I think it would mean needing to produce curves for their custom vactrols, and see if that could be replicated by combining stock LDRs and leds.

I’ll vote-but mainly to see if there’s really some special vactrol in this. Also because I like compressors.
