XVIVE Vactrols in General Tso's?

Hello PPCBers,
I've built a few of the Aion FX Dinosaural OTC-201 Compressors and they use the VTL5C4. I know that the Thorpy Fat General is designed by the same guy and that the two are pretty similar. Was wondering if I could use the XVIVE VTL5C4s in the General Tso's Comp (Fat General)? Thanks in advance for any advice!

Synthrotek has two options for VTL5C4 - Economy at $4 or Xvive at $7.50. Any reason not to go with the cheaper one for the General Tso and Trembling Loon?

And a couple of red LEDs (since the LDRs are spec’d for 650nm) and my general tso works fantastic.

Try them all: the cheap, the expensive and the RYO — then use the version you like best. The "extras" can be used in a future build.

Hi all,

Just a cautionary tale. I built the Tso last weekend and I had two XVIVE vactrols that I had ordered for the build. I plugged the LED side of the vactrols in my tester. One of them measured like my green (non-clear) LEDs, fine. The other measured differently every time I hit the test button. And every five or so times my tester would say it cannot detect whatever is plugged in and suggested that the part may be damaged.

I didn't use the vactrols because of this. I used the LDRs and green LEDs instead and it works fine.
