Cleanest boost for 1950a

long time away from here! happy to be back;

I need a simple volume boost that fits in a 1590a to place in my amp's loop switch, so I need the cleanest boost possible;

I know there is Amentun boost, AFT preamp and Enchanted boost that all fits in 1590a, but which is the cleanest sounding?

there is also the "not okay" boost from CGI; anyone have an experience with that?

if you're intending to run this in your FX loop, you'll want a boost with the largest headroom possible. - i.e. preferably something running at 18V or more.
for best results - this factor will matter more than whatever is 'cleanest'.

35v is fine, it's about double the rating. You get diminishing returns using higher voltage caps, especially considering the footprint of higher voltage electrolytics. Most film caps these days are 63v and higher, you have nothing to worry about there.
 
For an FX-loop boost, I’d focus less on the “cleanest” voicing and more on headroom. A simple high-headroom op-amp boost running at 18V should give you plenty of clean volume without adding noticeable coloration.

The 1590A is tight, so keeping the circuit simple is a big advantage. Just make sure every active component is rated for 18V, not only the capacitors. For the electrolytics, 35V parts should be more than enough.

Personally, I’d go for the simplest high-headroom design rather than chasing a particular pedal circuit. In an FX loop, transparency and sufficient headroom are what really matter.
