    Stickman's germanium excel document

Alternate title: Stickman is tired of doing math. Make computer do math. Alternate, alternate title: this is apparently how I relax after an hour and a half to two hours commute home. Anywho. Put this together. Feel free to copy it. I just wanted to plug in the values that I read off my...

    Vacuum-dehydrating hygroscopic components...

Neither. Grandma Turducken. You know. The character in star wars that was played by Peter Cushing.

    Vacuum-dehydrating hygroscopic components...

I've been seeing the Moff Fuzz in the drawing board. Reminds me that I need to make my Grandma Turducken Fuzz a reality. Could be! Though I gotta say: I've got some Tungsram AC125s that are heavily oxidized, and they're just about as leaky as the Tungsram OC1075s that I've got that look near...

    Vacuum-dehydrating hygroscopic components...

Bitches. Well then I guess I just need to make a fuzz face with indirect evaporative cooling.

    Vacuum-dehydrating hygroscopic components...

This experiment was a dud, unfortunately. No differences observed. Maybe adding a heating pad underneath might help. Though that's assuming that the presence of water is the cause of the leakage: which is just a poorly supported hypothesis at this point. Heatsinks...its possible. Plenty of...

Need a pedal idea for a specific enclosure

This is the hill I will die on, sir.

I presume it's the chauffeur for one who deals in stolen property.

    3AX31C Germanium gain

I mean, I knew they weren't actual AC128s! Color me curious. And color me unwilling to take other people's word for it. Also, color me out a few bucks with a bunch of useless germs. Nbd. I kinda am hoarding all the germs right now.

Tube Driver? Got a big ol cutout that looks perfect for a vacuum tube.

    3AX31C Germanium gain

Tc-1 is a good investment. But it's not good for testing germaniums. They don't quite get the leakage values right past 100uA, and are absolutely worthless at measuring anything that takes a while to stabilize. Which is to say: certain Russian transistors it does quite well with. The ones...

    3AX31C Germanium gain

Addendum: I also picked up some of the so-called "AC128s" from China. These are interesting. Not so much in their usability: that seems unlikely. Best I've found out of the bunch this far has been a leakage of 570uA. But, they're *really* shiny. Like, gleaming. Almost makes me wonder if...

    3AX31C Germanium gain

That's the one. The Russian "b". That is. My batch is mostly 20uA or under and mostly 70-85 hfe. I only have one box, but it seems like, as with many Russian transistors, they tend to be very well matched within a box. Which is the only bummer about certain Soviet transistors. You don't...

    Question About Selling

Damn Monk-ie. Talking social media analytics and stuffs. Here's the deal: everybody's on social media. Everybody's hawking their tuahs for a moment in the spotlight and some of that sweet, sweet cheddar. Listen: selling pedals is like guerrilla warfare. You gotta toss a few boxes through...

    Question About Selling

Aw shucks. I wasn't implying any rudeness. I was just having a little navel-gazy fun. Though: hear me out. Make your product like...ah...super fancy. I dunno. Get a little crazy with the packaging. Then...hear me out...charge like, 1K. Make your stuff all about exclusivity and waiting...

    Question About Selling

Speaking as a man who really only likes engaging in the idea of building a pedal brand, and doesn't really sell anything to anybody. Really. My opinion here was not asked for, so I'll just kinda hang out here. Don't mind me.

    3AX31C Germanium gain

I recently bought some 3AX85Cs and 3AX83Cs. Iceo for all was 1ma and above using the RG keen method. Most were around the 3ma range. Which is just about as bad as one can get using the RG keen method. I can't say I've been endeared to Chinese germaniums yet. Sure, they'll be good additions...

    That sounded so rehersed.

    Old Solder

Don't do it. If you do, you'll get solder balls. Big ones. Swollen, one might say. Also: made of lead, so they'll be heavy. One must always follow the rules of expiration set by manufacturers in critical, life-sustaining applications like guitar pedals. Give it to an airplane mechanic...

    3K74 resistor?

Here's a little page that describes the E series of preferred numbers fairly well: https://www.logwell.com/tech/components/resistor_values.html 374 is part of the E96 series, which corresponds to a 1% tolerance. Guitar pedals don't generally need that tight of a tolerance, though. Folks like...

1µF Box Film Capacitors and Finding a Good Size

Good little resource. I typically use the Kemets, personally. I'm always gonna prefer a film over a mlcc on this range. At least until C0G is available in a 1uf package. Though I've been known to go a little crazy and grab a PPS or a polypro in this range. Because...fuck it. I do what I want.
