What strings do you guys use?

Ernie Ball and/or D'Addarrio basic strings, with a couple singles subbed in for better tension balance and/or wound 3rd, etc. Buying strings is our excuse for driving across town to play all the guitars & amps for a couple hours at the local guitar shop 🤷‍♂️

All Tayda pre-drilled, powder coated enclosures out of stock

Bummer to lose the cheaper option. Although, it seemed like the order progress was no different from using the drill template system. Stupid question time: is there a single source for all the various PPCB drill templates? I think I have maybe half of them. It can be an adventure tracking down...

    AionFX Ember Distortion Gate

I eventually jumpered 1 & 2 on the Grind Customs Aeons (same circuit and gate section, but it is 18v). It's jumper 1 & 2 for gate off, 500k for gate full. I'm not much of a gate guy, but I found it a bit much. I think the pot I used was bad (Tayda B500K)--it was gating a little at full CCW. I...

    Storage Questions

I use this bin from the dollar store: I'm trying out the card binder thing, with empty spaces for the E24 values I haven't needed to order yet. It's a matter of time.... Still, I think I prefer the long slim box method, even if it's a little harder to put away.

    Bring out yer Diptrace

One thing I like to do is save a copy and just unroute the whole thing and redo it. I always find a few ways to simplify. Or even (gasp) run the auto-router just to see what it comes up with. Usually it reveals where moving a part could lead to simpler routing. I also like to keep in mind that...

    Bring out yer Diptrace

I'd check the C17 traces against the schematic--if it had you follow a ratsnest line, there could be an incorrect connection. The G2 pad takes a long and convoluted path to the ground pad at the top, including passing through R1's thermals. I like to evaluate the ground pour after every trace I...

    Promethium distortion cap swap

I swapped it to 1uF on an HM2 build, also changing R25 to 470R. The difference works out to be around 89 Hz with Q=3.8, vs stock 87Hz with Q=3.7. That's roughly a semitone difference for each. Those changes have other (small) implications to that part of the circuit. But, I can't detect the...

No drill template, like Moonn, What do you do?

Keeping in mind that the pot shaft center is 16.5mm from the middle hole, lots of caliper measurements and double checking. I usually just draw it all it in Illustrator. It has turned out that many Moonn boards use the same spacing as PPCB--but not always. Scanning is a great idea, because...

Basic Relay Bypass (Latching) - SW tab

Isn't that the connection for an LED? It goes low when the pedal is on. It would work as an active low switch for Arduino.

circuit layout with charge pump best practices

I suppose doing it at the bypass switch could be an option--there's often a bit of unused space down there. Madbean's Road Rage, for example.

US based seller of soldering supplies

TEquipment has a good selection, and their prices on Kester 44 are competitive, so I'd imagine it's the same for flux. I bought my FX888d from them, and it was a smooth transaction with lots of updates. It seems like Circuit Specialists should probably be in the discussion, but I haven't...

    Rounded edges on PCB

In Eagle I always did the radius last, but in Diptrace it seems useful to do it early, because the outline shifts leftward by the radius amount. But you can fiddle with the points themselves too.

    Importing/scaling PCB in Illustrator

I've been working on a box for a Grind Customs Aeons. Here's a screenshot of using guides from measurements. I measured the outer pot distances as 36mm (center holes). After dragging the reference point to the center, I placed vertical guides at -18, 0 and 18 (you can select a guide and enter...

    Importing/scaling PCB in Illustrator

I don't trust the dimensions of anything pasted/placed in Illustrator, though I'd expect placing to more likely retain dimensions. But I do it frequently with boards that don't have drill guides, or drill guides that aren't in metric, or using side mounted jacks, etc. I use a screenshot. Here's...

Moonn Night Destroyer - Low Volume?

Just to dispose of possible issues, remember that P2N2222 has a different pinout from 2N2222 and PN2222. Doesn't look like it's at play here, but it's burned me a couple times....

    Just curious: 125B vs 1590B?

If I think a board will work in a 1590b, that's my preference. I have a couple Boss pedals that aren't leaving anytime soon, so no point trying to standardize with top mounted jacks. On the other hand, Boss pedals are taller than 1590b, so the benefits of the lower height aren't complete. Kind...

EasyEDA Sub-Forum for Schematic / PCB Design?

I'd be all about this. EasyEDA isn't the only PCB software I'd ever use, but for making boards to be fully/partially assembled by JLC, I'd rather confirm as many parts as possible in the design phase. Alas, so many sketchy user-contributed parts! I wonder if there's a way to make a...

    Adobe Illustrator reference point

Drag guides from the rulers to mark the center (Illustrator will indicate the center and lightly snap to it). Then, drag the top left corner area of the rulers to the center point. It will snap too. You can check it by putting guides on the sides of the box and making sure their distance from...

What would you consider a "long enough" delay time for most practical purposes?

Whatever this is. Actually, it's 300mS. So, 300mS is enough for me.
