Kliche Mini - Which Capacitors Affect Tone?

    You’re probably right. Haha!

Kliche Mini - Which Capacitors Affect Tone?

So, I tried using sockets on the diodes and tried several different ones, but that is not the issue and made little difference in the honky mid-range thing I’m trying to fix. I ended up starting over. In fact, today I build another one from scratch. I built it to spec and it sounds the same as...

    Best place to order resistors?

Maybe a plexiglass enclosure to show it off. Could be a nice one-off project. Maybe the circuit is a psychedelic modulated fuzz or something to match.

    Best place to order resistors?

I think those tropical fish caps look awesome. I’d like to build something with those someday.

    Best place to order resistors?

For anyone interested, here is my order. Would have been a lot cheaper on Amazon probably … but worth a try to me to see if the quality of inventory is indeed better. I realize I may never use some of these but I’m new to it and just don’t know. I also realize the leads are 10mm on some of these...

    Best place to order resistors?

Speaking of measuring ceramics, I bought a kit awhile back that had 3600 ceramics and they arrived mixed up. For the most part I can tell them apart by the code but in many cases the code is worn off or missing. I bought a Fluke multimeter to help sort it out (knowing I’d use it quite a lot in...

    Best place to order resistors?

Good point. Kinda like also,… if I build a LoFi pedal, why would I use HiFi parts? I mean, I guess it could be like with recording when you track in a super deadened room so you can control the reverb to a T. Like having a perfect environment as the spring board to build from. But, I agree, if...

    Best place to order resistors?

I almost bought some of those but it was going to limit the number of inventory units I could purchase by quite a lot. They were 40 cents each on Tyda. Maybe someday I’ll upgrade to Wima or just order to the build when necessary. But today, I only had $600 to work with and was trying to fully...

    Best place to order resistors?

I know from past threads that people like those box film ones since they fit nicely in place on the board. I have a decent amount of those, but sadly I had ordered them from Amazon. I’m not sure if they sound great as there isn’t anything around to compare them to. I’m still building my...

    Best place to order resistors?

Should I stock up on the green caps or the red? Which is better? How do they compare?

    Best place to order resistors?

Looking on Tayda at diodes. It is a little overwhelming how many options there are. What are the most common ones for pedals?

    Best place to order resistors?

I’m about to stock up on resistors and wondering the best place to purchase. The reason I ask is they seem way cheaper on Amazon vs Tayda, but I’ve read that Amazon resistors aren’t great. I went to Mouser and that seemed both expensive and limited. Is there a better place I haven’t looked...

    Fake transistor?

I changed the cap and it did have a slight affect on the tone (in a good way), but didn’t quite bring the pedal to sounding like the other one. It is close though, and acceptable. I just would like to figure out how to get it closer. Maybe tomorrow I’ll measure hFE values and get some voltage...

    Fake transistor?

At the time I posted I hadn’t finished the circuit yet. But I’ve finished it now and it works but doesn’t sound as good as the other one I built with the exact same schematic. So, I assume it is the transistor or the cap. It doesn’t sound “bad”, just a little different. A little darker.

    Fake transistor?

When a transistor has a “cut out” look (like this), does it mean it is fake? What I mean is that the edge around the seam looks rough.

    Schematics for pedals using 2N5457?

Okay, so what I’m gathering from this is that I could use non-polarized or polarized, but if I go with polarized, I’d just make sure that the curved line, which represents negative, would go to ground.

    Schematics for pedals using 2N5457?

Does this mean I’d use an electrolytic but could ignore its orientation? I should know this but I don’t. Just making sure it is clear. I thought non polarized is like film, ceramics, MLCCs, and that those do not have a polarized cap.

    Schematics for pedals using 2N5457?

When I see these, how do I know if they are polarized? I know the straight lines mean non-polarized, but the one that has a curved line and a straight line sometimes means polarized and sometimes not, right? (Where the straight line represents the positive side.) But I’m unsure because some...

That link is super cool. I’ll definitely be using it in the future.

    Schematics for pedals using 2N5457?

Thank you. Plenty here to explore. By “simple” I meant a circuit that is roughly around the complexity of the Electra, or at least not exceeding the complexity of the Rat. I’ll look into these schematics and see what I can find. One thing I’ve noticed about the Rat is it has a power section...
