    High Voltage Hijinks

Cost of daily life does hit hard. I am always amazed how much half a cart of groceries costs. Some people do parallel builds: one for you, one for sale (with a close to 100% markup on component costs). So end result is 1 free for you ;) Could you do that or is it too much upfront?

Rare soldering stock image where the guy doesn't hold the iron by the tip. Well played.

    Tube Preamp PCB (draft)

As long as you respect creepage, you won't have an issue putting VDC and signal on the same plane. Usual rules apply: no parallel traces etc. Also short traces beat everything - you are almost exclusively using 90° turns while the norm is usually 45° turns. For example your R19 / D3 / R21...

    Tube Preamp PCB (draft)

From the schematic, at a quick glance, it's a modular 2 tube pre that should work. I wouldn't expect tons of gain out of it. Regarding the PCB tho, and while I am not sure which scale you are using, there are some issues with your blue side imo. Putting aside the fact that I am not a big fan of...

    What’s on *YOUR* workbench?

I would honestly tend to agree that barrel jacks, even Switchcraft, seem less « grippy » than their classical counterparts but I never ran into an issue with them (except with a used Ibanez 2027xvv but I think this one went to hell and back before I got it). But three guitars are basically new -...

    What’s on *YOUR* workbench?

Not pedal related but was on my bench and it may help someone. I bought some Ernie Ball cables and had some signal cut. No biggie, I thought defective cable (was doing it on a few guitars) so contacted CS which very nicely and graciously sent me a replacement. Same deal. Signal cutting. None of...

    High Voltage Hijinks

Wow that's nice. Very present with body, really everywhere on the spectrum. Man as I said before, you really stepped up your game. Looks clean as hell. Funny spot for the fuse on the top by why not ;) Will you be building a headshell for this, or leaving it open?

Can these be used for pedalpcb.com builds?

While I am usually happy with non-brand jacks, I would NOT cheap out on your 9V DV connector. When those are not the perfect size, they are a massive PITA.

    High Voltage Hijinks

Man if I had access to decent quality OT at a good price here I would be happy. I am paying less for a custom made high quality OT than a regular Hammond for which I have to compromise my specs (either not the right primary, or only 1 secondary). And since I am ordering custom OT I just go...

    High Voltage Hijinks

Gnnnn just asked for an update on the transformers 6 weeks after the order. ... and at the same time my favorite wood provider is restocking, and I have at least 2 guitar builds worth of ideas in my head. My wallet and free time right now:

    High Voltage Hijinks

I don’t use any of these. Never felt the need to with modern equipment, proper tube/wire/transformer layout and decent lead dress. And a noise gate in the loop sometimes ;)

    High Voltage Hijinks

Clean. Good work! And no arcing then :D But... why is the middle tube retainer shiny while the others are not? WHY???

    High Voltage Hijinks

Seriously running out of things to do while I wait for the transformers. And the layout for the chassis inside and component is done in DIYLC too. And the facegrill - will likely go with a laser engraved plexiglass with LEDs in the headshell that change color based on the channel. Yes, I...

    High Voltage Hijinks

light bulb limiter + Rob Robinette’s startup protocol and nothing bad can happen. As long as you wear protection googles and keep your hands out of the chassis ofc.

Good idea! I use a screw driver with heat shrink on it. Captain Scrooge reporting for duty!

    High Voltage Hijinks

No worries ;) I always think it's good to get a refresher. As for teflon tubing, I would use it strategicaly to make sure that I have high voltage "lines" around points I might want to probe later on protected. Just to make sure I don't jump anything with my multimeter.

    High Voltage Hijinks

I admit I am mostly concerned about creepage ("surface" distance) and not clearance ("floating" distance) when I do my PCB because it's usually way smaller. For standard JLCPCB, its CTI is 200 (Mat group IIIa) so you can approximate 1mm creepage / 100V potential difference and be safe at normal...

    High Voltage Hijinks

Looks mostly fine to me? Or are the decals on the black panel slightly crooked? I had no idea about the Amp Panel podcast! I'll give it a shot, thanks. Hoh and aren't the legs of the filter caps fairly close to your ground bus? I would be really scared of arcing there and probably run a...

    High Voltage Hijinks

Still missing my transformers so turned to 3D modelling. Preamp: Poweramp: I should maybe have done this sooner. It may be that I have the KT77 heaters flying a bit close to some output transformer ins... we'll see. As a bonus, I am spending some time reading up on amp design and started...

    Reliable fasel inductor

fwiw - I was searching for inductors and noticed Mesa Boogie sells some. I think they use it in some amps for the NFB but I don't see why you couldn't use them for Wahs. Plenty of values, and while they don't have 500mH they have 1H or 68mH and 390mH or 220mH. Under 4$ each...
