    circuit modifications in amps

Always wet your finger before touching the top of the first filter cap in series, it’s tradition. If you don’t know what it means please don’t open an amp. The not do list is massive. It can go from small bad smell to coffin pretty fast with all the shades of arcing and fuzzy insides in...

    High Voltage Hijinks

Damn man. A quartet of KT88 is 250€ here! As far as front panels are concerned, I have worked almost exclusively (amps and pedals) with a CO2 laser. If you have a maker space closeby, it is usually really really cheap to operate and not difficult to get something decent out of. Removing powder...

    What's in the mailbox? 📬 📦

Slowly but surely starting to receive components for my next amp build… need this one asap to do a proper pcb footprint. (If anyone knows why a side is marked green let me know, I thought inductors had no polarity?

That's great! 10€ shipping isn't that bad either. Beats buying 100m with 25€ handling fee :ROFLMAO: Thanks !

    High Voltage Hijinks

Putting this back on track - Been in tight contact with Thermionic lab (EU) to wind me some transformers and I will go with them. Not the cheapest for the PT (they make you basically pay for the core and will do anything you want for the windings as long as the core supports it) but choke and...

Mouser and Digikey search game changer?

Yeah that's what I meant. Been finding more not-entered or plain out wrong entries in crucial parameters lately (lol at some high voltage caps with capacitance or voltage that's not matching in part number and mouser entry... what do I trust send help) and that has been making my life hard.

Mouser and Digikey search game changer?

On this side, I have had issues trying to filter stuff lately... as soon as one category is not properly documented (no values listed) selecting a filter removes it. So when trying to filter caps by ESR, as soon as a cap doesn't have one documented by mouser, it doesn't show. Even if the...

    High Voltage Hijinks

Hey that's looking great! I love when PTP looks tidy. I have seen pictures of things that sent shivers down my spine... The bias is running at 55%. I don't think it's too low, but it's cold for sure. I just... like it? One thing I realized though is that, compared to the original Deliverance...

    High Voltage Hijinks

Imma reply to myself :ROFLMAO: I fixed my Deliverance. After two hours of probing, validating DC voltages, resistances and continuity, I decided to simply check AC voltages with a signal. Turns out, the amps works with not issues! I must have had a lose connection somewhere, or something when...

    Noise Gates

Was using it in 4CM. Nowadays I don't need it, cleaned up my technique and my pickups/amps are quieter.

    Noise Gates

I have a Muzzle and I like it a lot. Replaced my NS-2, it's better in a way (tighter and faster while also being smooth) but the NS-2 is a really solid option. The tone suck is basically insignificant if you have a buffer in front. While I will avoid saying your best noise gates are your left...

    High Voltage Hijinks

Yeah those datasheet spacing things seem to be pretty conservative. When you look at actual amps or even HiFi, they are never respected. The only thing to actually pay attention to is distance to the transformers really. Also, I think I am done with my PCB for the VH1+3 thingie now. All...

Getting Started with PCBA at JLCPCB

Long story short, and to my limited understanding: ground that have to do with power require higher current and see more electron movement. It's not the case for most signal grounds. If your audio ground "draws" from a power ground directly and frequently, you will end up seeing ripple from the...

Getting Started with PCBA at JLCPCB

Yes same for ground pours. And keep in mind good grounding practice - not all grounds traces are equal, even if they end up tied at the same spot.

Getting Started with PCBA at JLCPCB

Creepage depends on what the trace is carrying. You have creepage required for safety against arcing (purely voltage related and below 9V you can go really tight) but then there is creepage that is specific to coupling between signal. Then you should take into a count not only the voltage...

    High Voltage Hijinks

Well, I just blew up my deliverance 🤣 I had an attenuator and was alone in the building. Apparently, high gain and past 7 on the MV palm muting isn’t a good time. I thought “fuck this is loud enough to play with a drummer no problem even with -20dB attenuation” and… crackles, no sound. Time to...

Getting a PCB made from a gerber

As a total noob, Autodesk Fusion has treated me well for PCB designs. Felt more intuitive than the rest to me. But I have a free Autodesk license from work so there is that. Also learn to cherish Mouser making footprints for you to help you start out :p And then make your own library. At that...

    High Voltage Hijinks

Artwork looks good! Hey they look good! I have been using mostly the same knobs on everything. Small version for pedals, large for amp. They are pretty cheap, are made from Aluminium and have a hex screw lock. But these might be calling my name for my next build.
