Stuff you wanted to know but were afraid to ask

Opened an old device after dealing with a bunch of stubborn copper screws. Took quite the effort and of course the soft screws took damage. Are these annoying screws used for a reason? Only thing I can think of is that the soft material easily shows tampering with a device, turning any warranty...

    What's on the workbench?

Also, from the basic Mighty Micro specs this one stood out: "Glow-In-The-Dark Washer for Bypass Switch offers improved visibility on dark stages." Makes all the other white washers look even more stupid than they already did!

    What's on the workbench?

Even more amazing. <3 I am impressed by all that work put into that shape; there's even the litle slots in the lid and the box to get to the battery.

    What's on the workbench?

Oh, wow! What a nice looking enclosure! Never seen these before. The designer really did his best to turn cheap materials into something strinking. Now picture this all metal. <3

    3D Printed Resistor Tester Stand

Huntington Audio has this multimeter breakout board. Expensive, yes. But just chuck all his useful tools in the basket for discount and goodies; I needed no other tools than his for testing.

Since when have j201 TH been manufactured again?

CA3080 perhaps? Took that one out of my Banzai basket and went for Ebay instead, after going through the rare-ish parts I had bookmarked from their site.🙃

Stuff you wanted to know but were afraid to ask

There was a pedal kickstarter a while back (edit: oh, there's still 28 available) that made sidechaining any effect easy. It's all digital, but I'm sure analog is quite feasible as well, considering the sidechain implementations in analog performance mixers...

Since when have j201 TH been manufactured again?

Banzai sells them for about a euro if you buy some stock. But they also have NOS. Curious where the cheap ones come from, as they're labelled house brand. https://www.banzaimusic.com/J201.html

Stuff you wanted to know but were afraid to ask

Thanks, I don't trust wiring 40 of these suckers (4pin and 9pin, which can be used via the same layout) by hand, so a daughterboard it's going to be. Now, let's see if I can find someone reading this, willing to do so for a fee. €30,- is the avarage hourly wage in the Netherlands these days. 😌...

Stuff you wanted to know but were afraid to ask

How long would it take someone who knows what he's doing to design a daughterboard for this type of jack? 🙈 Sorta like this, but with some mounting holes.

SWITCH-CRAFT (got any creative uses of switches?)

Came across this one while figuring out the possibilities of these for my amp. Might as well put it in PPCBs magic switch chest! Too bad they're so expensive.

Since when have j201 TH been manufactured again?

Good for pedal companies, as in the end, the pedal buyer pays for it! [insert fancy] grade quality or whatever. 🤭

    Teledisaster…

Not here on the shelves of DIY stores, but available online. I'll buy myself some evaporust next time!

    Teledisaster…

Dunk it in white vinegar for a few hours and rub it with a a squeezed ball of tin foil. It's how I cleaned a 70 year old coffee grinder back into business.

ICs and Transistors, Socket or Solder?

TO-* gets fully soldered, unless rare / expensive (easy to plunder for future builds). DIP sits snug in sockets, so no risk there.

This Week on the Breadboard: The Spirit in the Sky Fuzz

Derail: I couldn't find it, and I know you've mentioned before of at some time doing a breadboard (and maybe even a boneyard edition) of the Pussy Melter? I caught a few details about it over the years, and am curious if the silly way of how they stuck two circuits together has any influence on...
