    Some serious Cork sniffery

Looks like a cheap VST plugin from the 2000’s

TUTORIAL Basic fret level, crown & polish made easy (picture heavy)

Finally got a chance to use them, levelling the frets on an old Schecter neck I got off eBay years ago and used on another pine tele build. Though I never played it much since the fretwork was kinda rough. I think the neck got banged around a bit before I got it as a couple frets had low spots...

TUTORIAL Basic fret level, crown & polish made easy (picture heavy)

I saw those, great reviews and price, so I bought the 3-pack (2mm, 2.5mm and 3mm width files). Just arrived today.

TUTORIAL Basic fret level, crown & polish made easy (picture heavy)

I’ve been googling for files, and the musicnomad S-File looks neat, and would be slightly cheaper than stewmac once shipping is included (in the U.K.). Seems pretty neat and reviews are good though some say it leaves the crown wider than ideal (but I would guess leaning the file to either side...

TUTORIAL Basic fret level, crown & polish made easy (picture heavy)

Great tutorial thanks very much for posting it years ago, very timely for me to find it! I have my first parts guitar I built many years ago that has become very buzzy even with pretty high action… I made the body and bought a cheap Chinese neck on eBay. It was serviceable when I got it (apart...

General question on op-amp output resistors

thanks, I think I understand a bit more now, how the value is decided upon.

General question on op-amp output resistors

I’m afraid that second paragraph is over my head! The circuit is the ‘stupidly awesome buffer’ by soulsonic on the freestompboxes forum.

General question on op-amp output resistors

Does anyone know how important the value of R19 is in the above circuit? I’ve seen values from 3m3 down to 10k, does it affect output impedance in some way? Reason I ask - I have built a simple TL071 buffer to fix an impedence mismatch, I am currently running an overly convoluted setup (for...

Power Supply recommendations? (Anything inexpensive and reliable?)

I have some cheap power supply I got years ago that looks exactly like the harley benton power plant iso-2 pro (mine is branded ‘Vitoos’ but I’ve seen a bunch of different brand names on it). Works real good and I only hear slight switching noise with some of my more problematic noisy amps...

    Fryette Powerstation Schematic

The Aiken reactive load box design is a really good one, I would just go with that scheme and tweak values to match what you want it to do simulating it in LTSpice. Lots of seemingly-minor factors have a major effect on the impedence curve, that tgp thread is a good read. Stuff like inductor dc...

    What’s on *YOUR* workbench?

Can I post random stuff? These are both a lot rustier than the eBay pictures lead me to believe. But still probably worth the £15 Rusty inside also. The SRT101 has a dead meter and is the worse of the two. The SRT100x was operating a lot smoother after about 100 actuations of the shutter...

    Missing Build Docs / Schematics

Lmao I knew it. I bought one of these used years ago based on guitar forum reviews about how totally different it was from your typical tubescreamer (serves me right really). I thought it just sounded like a standard TS but brighter. I opened it up and traced it out, sorta, but mine is SMD...

Guitar Build Wood Screw Disaster... Help?

Quoted for truth, very important when putting screws in hard wood, makes them go in much more smoothly, much less likely to bind and snap. Especially since most screws used on guitar hardware is not hardened steel. Also always make sure your pilot hole is sufficient, hard wood will crack...

    The power of suggestion

Remember most people’s frame of reference for an overdrive pedal is a tubescreamer, which is very not transparent at any setting. Almost anything sounds ‘transparent’ in comparison to a tubescreamer. Also my experience with flat response clean boosts is that they tend to sound a bit bassier...

Where Has DIY Let You Down?

I think I had two pedals prior to learning to build pedals.

    A tip for your tip?

I don’t know if it matters but usually try not to power cycle anything unnecessarily. If it’s gonna be sat there for 10 minutes while I’m doing something else, I’ll just turn the temperature down to the minimum which I think is 100c on mine. I’ll turn it off if I’m leaving the room for more...

    Fiddly screwdriver question?

I got this one from I think b&m (cheap store here in the U.K.). Rolson 28290 31 pc Precision Screwdriver Set https://amzn.eu/d/gT7ldHs Works very good but the bit holder is not ideal as they will all fall out loose if you turn the box upside down. I kept the little bit of molded plastic...

    Isosceles Boost W/gate built in.

Looks good, is it working? Make sure to insulate the back of the enclosure so you don’t short anything out when you put the back on.

    Left Hand Guitar Players

Another added complication for me is that I’m in the U.K. so shipping from outside the U.K. ends up very high. I did eventually find some alpha brand ones that are full-sized though. They’re even imperial.

    Left Hand Guitar Players

Pots have always been a struggle for me. Luckily I prefer linear volume knobs, that one is easy. For pickguards, pots with short shafts for pedals are easy enough to get with C taper, but sometimes are too stiff. Good luck finding reverse audio long shaft pots for a Les Paul. Took me ages...
