Nobelium - tube bass preamp project

I’m surprised this happens as the second tube acts as a buffer for the 1/4” out. So the two outputs should be isolated. Interesting! I’m looking forward to the replies you get for this one.

Bathtub Reverb Accu-Bell Effector Upgrade Project

A little something I've ordered. Fingers crossed! The three pots and the switch give a strong fix to the enclosure. [Back] I've added further filtering caps for the 9V supply [Front bottom left]. I've used one op-amp as a buffer for the input, another op-amp to buffer the 4.5V rail, and the...

Here is a sample of my updated MOD for the Bathtup Reverb. Note that the Dry path stays clean: [This is my original case, not my updated graphic]

The Fc of 180Hz has been my favourite for Bass. It's a very low slope but still removes the mud.

So, in terms of simply bending the pin, that would work well. However, I needed to cut Pin 3 because I had already installed the module for my previous design. I checked how the capacitance of C2 would impact the Fc values. Because the Fc of C2 is so low compared the the voicing switch Fc's. It...

Good question, I’ll check my notes. My current build has a 1uF in place.

Bathtub Reverb Accu-Bell Effector Upgrade Project

So, after a pause to re-do my Bathtub Reverb MOD, I've now integrated the idea above [thanks Mick]. I have adjusted the circuit so the HPF only impacts the Wet signal path while preserving the Dry path. I've also taken the Mix option away so it can be 0-100% Wet independantly of 0-100% Dry...

Note that I shorten pin 3, then mount pin 3 to the board via the 0.015uF cap. All of my shileded cables are grounded to pin 4. Next time I'll leave pin 4 un-trimmed to make this easier on the underside of the board.

Two reasons for the high C2. The main one being, that's what I had on hand :) The second is that I tend to let pedals have a specific role (I deal with mud with my SA EQ2), this way I don't have multiple pedals contributing to a HPF. C2 sees a combined effective impedance of ~15.5k. So, for an...

Oh, a C2 of 0.68uF also works and will give an Fc of ~15Hz but I didn't have one on hand.

Okay so after three different itterations I'm finally happy. To replace C2, I put in a 1uF 400V cap mounted on the underside. [Not acting as a HPF for the Dry path with an Fc of ~10Hz]. Then, to make a HPF switch for the Reverb Wet signal only, I cut Pin 3 short and mounted it via a 15nF cap...

I’m now working on applying the Fc switch to the wet signal but not the the dry path. Been busy lately so slow progress.

Oh, by the way, I'm in the middle of trying different values for my coupling capacitor. I'm still not happy with mine (the fc of the voicing switch is still too high). The capacitor C2 sees a total impedance of ~15k4. (The Plate output impedance of ~8k6, the following resistor network, and the...

Very neat work Rpschultz13! If I may ask, what is that small blue board on the bottom left?

Bathtub Reverb Accu-Bell Effector Upgrade Project

Great call sir! No I was not aware of these. So… how much of a change would it be to swap the current mix pot with the MN taper pot? Perhaps a matter of changing the pin configuration? It could be relatively simple!! I’ll have to have a look next time I’ve got a moment… The Vol pot will still...

Bathtub Reverb Accu-Bell Effector Upgrade Project

I had considered this. In the end I decided to use this build as a learning experience. I’ve never used op amps before and am enjoying the learning. :) I know it's expensive, but if I learn how to use the OPA2134 dual op-amp it'll open up more design possibilities for me. My current inquiry is...

Here is a video of my version of the BTR... you can hear the three different voicings: From Bright, to Middle presence, to full Bass. With the mix turned all the way down, you can also use the BTR for a bit of tube buffering/compression/dynamics as well :) Thanks to MarloweDK for the bass loop...
