Several weeks later.... The XLR out died completely after a while. I didn't have any more 12AU7 so I ordered a new couple of 5814A (more expensive, should be upgrades?) from Klaus and put them in yesterday. Seems to work as advertised now. I hope these won't burn out quick, that would suggest...

Also the volumes are post tubes, right before the transformer/amp out?

Thanks! I’ll try swapping the tubes. My pickups are pretty hot, clipped my oc2 so I built a clone that I run on 18v which gives enough headroom. I think I can borrow a vintage style p bass to try more traditional pickups (Tungelsta, huh? Grymt!)
