    Double pedal master bypass footswitch

I'm building a double pedal with a Chickenhead (Ge Rangemaster) in first position and a Pauper (Prince of Tone) in second position. Because the Chickenhead needs to stay in first position due to input impedance, I won't need an order switch, but I would like to be able to turn the two sides...

    Prince of Tone (Pauper) Question

I'm designing artwork for the Pauper and I need to confirm the switch positions: - up for soft clipping - middle for no clipping - down for hard clipping Is this correct?

pdf drill templates imported into inkscape are 2mm larger than Tayda specs

I've noticed that when I import 125B drill templates from both PPCB and Aion into inkscape, the dimensions are not 62x177mm as per Tayda specs. They end up being 64.4x119.5mm (approx 2.5 mm larger in each direction). Is this extra size for the non-printable rounded edges of the enclosures? If...

Adding a LPF to a rangemaster circuit

It doesn't get brighter as in acting in reverse to the high cut, but listening carefully, I'd say that the effect is less noticeable. The extra harmonics from the boost knob cranked make the high cut more pronounced. I think this non-linearity is actually a benefit in practice. By 13.3n, I...

Adding a LPF to a rangemaster circuit

After much fiddling, confusion and disappointment, I stumbled across the idea of using a capacitor to ground via an on/off switch at the output of C4. After trying a few different values, I settled on 3n3, which perfectly rounds off the highest, unwanted frequencies without losing much level or...

Glory Hole build on Protoboard - Tone and Vol not working

Aha! All of my other breadboards have continuous power/ground rails - it never occurred to me. Thank you! Initially the output was extremely low and I thought that the biasing was off on the Jfet but it turns out that my 2n5457 was faulty. I replaced it with a J201 and everything works, but I...

Glory Hole build on Protoboard - Tone and Vol not working

As per the title, I've built the Glory Hole circuit on PPCB's proto board using it's built in Vref. The circuit passes signal right to the end, but the Tone and Volume pots have no effect. The Drive control works perfectly, so does the Hi Cut switch and the clipping sounds as expected. I've gone...

Adding a LPF to a rangemaster circuit

Haha. Yeah. But in all seriousness, with the variable input filter, it’s not really a treble booster any more, it’s completely full range. And what started me on this path is the extreme differences in the top end from pickup to pickup - even when used full range. This circuit would be way more...

Adding a LPF to a rangemaster circuit

Well, this has been an interesting experiment for me. I tried the Tillman (biased to 6v) both in front of the tone stack and after it and in both cases it actually adds too much gain. The Rangemaster already has so much level that the extra 3db from the Tillman (it actually sounds like a lot...

Adding a LPF to a rangemaster circuit

Oh man...I could have saved myself a couple of hours of confusion if I'd just zoomed in on the schematic a bit. Sheesh, what a dummy I am. I thought it was pretty odd to connect the output to both +9 and ground, but unfortunately I don't have enough experience to question things sometimes. Oof...

Adding a LPF to a rangemaster circuit

Yes, typo. Fixed that, sorry. Input is gate - It passes signal at the source but nothing at all comes out of the Drain

Adding a LPF to a rangemaster circuit

I've tried 3 J201s in this circuit. All 3 show 8.4v at the drain and fail to pass any audio at the drain using a probe. All 3 also work perfectly in the PPCB simple jfet buffer https://forum.pedalpcb.com/attachments/screenshot-2026-03-18-at-9-24-33 pm-medium-jpeg.113723/ Is there an explanation...

Adding a LPF to a rangemaster circuit

Is this the Tillman circuit you're talking about? https://till.com/articles/GuitarPreamp/ I've built this on it's own on a separate breadboard for testing and for some reason I can't get it to pass signal. Using a probe, I have signal at the source but not at the drain. MM shows 8.4v at the...

Adding a LPF to a rangemaster circuit

yes, I'm using a j201. I'm not sure how to bias a jfet, but I'll see if I can find a tutorial. I also have a 2n5457. Do they have more headroom?

Adding a LPF to a rangemaster circuit

Yeah, that makes sense. I wasn't expecting the buffer to compensate for the lossy tone stack, but I did expect it to be unity gain in itself at the output of the rangemaster, but it's not. I should probably clarify...I added the buffer WITHOUT the tone stack first and it puts out less than unity...

Adding a LPF to a rangemaster circuit

I'm experimenting with the Chickenhead (modified NPN rangmeaster) circuit on a breadboard by adding the passive LPF from this thread: https://forum.pedalpcb.com/threads/tone-stacks-part-1a-passive-filters.8245 It works great but there is a small drop in level even when the filter is at it's...

Tone Stacks - Part 1a - Passive Filters

Because It has! Which is why I directly asked if this digression was inappropriate for this thread. 🙂 I’m just trying to learn how to implement a filter in a real world situation which of course catapulted me into buffers, which brought up a bunch of other questions…ahh what a rabbit hole this...

Tone Stacks - Part 1a - Passive Filters

I'd like to try adding a buffer before the filter to start. Would this design be suitable? I have some SMD J201 on hand. https://www.pedalpcb.com/product/jfetbuffer/ Unfortunately, I don't have a 10uF MLCC. Could I substitute a 1uF Electrolytic? For the record, the circuit is the PPCB...
