Awful Waffle 8V2 Zener 1/2W 9.1V substitute

I’m trying to get lucky and order everything from one place will this 1N5239B work as a substitute? It’s rated for 9.1v with 500mw dissapation. Any help would be appreciated.

will this 1N5239B work as a substitute?

looks like the 8V2 specified diode is intended to clamp the supply voltage down to 8.2V
i'm assuming a 9V1 (9.1v) won't really do anything except clamp it down to 9.1V (assuming the supply is even at or above 9.1v after passing the 220R current limiting resistor)

this might make a difference to the overall sound/tone, but probably very little.

It's probably meant to replicate a low battery. You could socket it if you want and swap it out later, but the 9.1v should be fine

actually it looks like it works in concert with the voltage divider made by R101 and 102. Perhaps you should change R101's value to 100k and omit the zener

A 9.1V zener is the correct target here, but power rating isn’t critical in this spot. Using a 1/2W instead of 1/2W is fine as long as it physically fits, and even a 1W zener will work without issues. Just make sure the voltage rating stays at 9.1V, as changing that will affect the clipping behavior.
