I like to mod my PCB builds and sometime I think a mod should be permanent, If anyone else would like to see a change to any PCB post it here.
I want to start with one of the best C2CE PCB's the Nobelium.
I made a small change to my first Nobelium that gave me 2 diferent HPF frequencies, I cut one small track and added a capacitor, I also changed the switch from ON-ON to ON-OFF-ON.
There is a small track between pin 1 and 2 ( or 2 and 3 ) on the switch, it is not needed and if removed you can change the switch to ON-OFF-ON and add one capacitor and you end up with 2 different HPF frequencies. I think this could be useful for people with different speakers, amps etc. but especially if you play electric and double Bass.
I think I set mine for 90Hz and 45Hz by adding another 4n7 capacitor (C8A), it places both the 4n7 capacitors in parallel in the right position on the switch for a value of 9n4.
So cut the little track very carefully, do not cut deep, and then peel the track up slowly. It is a tiny track so it should be easy to do.
Install a SPDT ON-OFF-ON switch and solder in. I always mount my PCB in the box and tighten all the nuts on the pots and switches before I solder them in place so they are all aligned perfectly with the box.
Place the extra 4n7 capacitor across terminal 1 and 3 on the switch and solder in place, job done.
I have no idea how to calculate the capacitor values to get specific frequencies in the Nobelium so I hope someone else can work that out.
I think this mod should be permanently implemented on the Nobelium as it is just one track removed and one capacitor added.
The tiny track will not make any difference to the circuit if it is removed for people who just want one HPF frequency, the track is not needed.
(Unless we can get a variable HPF on the next version of the Nobelium)
Here are some pics and schematic of the mod, and what the PCB could look like.
Cheers
Mick
