Distortion using RED LEDs. Does Size Matter? SMD or full size LEDS?

I have a run of the mill distortion pedal, BEOD clone. It uses RED LEDs in the circuit, harder you hit the strings, the more bright they become.
Would there ne a difference using really tiny surface mount Red Leds or Full size 3mm or even 5 mm Red Leds?

Yes
There are variations in Ford voltage among different sizes and makes / part numbers.
It's not a huge variation typically but there is some difference.
You'd have to measure or know the part number and pull the datasheet.
