Fv-1 pin 5 clipping LED question

I was doing some research on the fv1 and its pin outs and noticed pin 5 is labeled clipping led. Searched several forums and read a bit about the purpose of said pin and led.

Could i use a green LED with a Current limiting resistor and mount that pin 5 clipping LED to the outside of my enclosure ?

Was curious if anyone has any first hand experience with using an LED this way.

I saw the pin 5 and immediately thought of the Doner Prince Boonar (fv-1 binson echorec emulator) Magic Eye LED.

Thanks

I’m thinking this is probably not going to work well for what you want. The purpose of the pin5 led is to warn you in your signal coming in the the fv-1 or leaving the fv-1 is at the max voltage of the chip (3.3v). Clipping the chip will likely sound pretty harsh, and won’t occur in any of the pedalpcb circuits and patches, unless you hit it with a big input input signal.

if I had to guess about the magic eye on the boonar, I’d say it’s probably using one of the fv-1 output pins (since it’s a mono pedal, for example pin28 could be audio out and pin 27 could be led out). I’ve done this and it works quite well, and you can control the led (including brightness) in the code.
