GCI Bass Brutalist or Socialist for Bass

Hi fellow lovers of the distorted bass guitar,

I wanted to order a GCI Bass Brutalist kit but noticed that the Socialist has all the Mods for the Brutalist JR included also the loudness adjustment aka "mid switch" which makes it more suitable for bass according to the Brutalist Jr build manual.
Does anyone have both?
Which should be better suited for bass?
I want to add a clean blend no matter which one it will be in the end.

Thanks!

I built both of them and out of curiosity also the N.E.W. Bass OD and noticed that they don't compare really well.
You can almost dial in a Bass Brutalist Tone with the Socialist but the Socialist is so much more flexible.
But I have to say that I like the Bass OD a lot more than the Socialist but I guess the name implies exactly that....
For bass there is no need for the Socialist. If you want the br00tz go get the Bass Brutalist.
For a lot more flexibility get the Bass OD which can also be very brutal :)
Building both of them is also a good choice!

I recently built a GCI New Bass overdrive and have a build report coming. I'm not a real bassist and guitar is my primary instrument but I've built around 4 or 5 bass drives and it's the most versatile one I've built.

"For a more extreme bass boost, build using these values; R8 = 68k, R12 =
100k, R13 = 1k, C6 = 4.7n, C9 22n, C14 = 47u."

I built the bass brutalist 3 years ago, i added 2 switches to toggle between standard values and bass boost. I chose TL71 and C4558C combination.

I really like this circuit with guitar and standard values. Among my favorite overdrives !
On bass with bass values, it's kind of bad, there is more bass, but it's muddy and unbalanced. I never could find any good setting with bass.

Edit : I just tried it again, it's probably not so bad with bass, but it's more effective as a distortion than as an overdrive, in my experience.
An extra clean blend control may help a lot, for more versatility on bass.
If you want the br00tz
I am not sure i understand what you mean here...?

I thought about using a 4PDT to switch a few things at once but the standard values are ok for me on bass.
For guitar a nice idea.

I understand it's br00tz.

But is it really cr00sh ?

Which op-amps are you using in your bass brutalist ?

Single op-amp has an impact on the first half of Gain rotation, dual op-amp is noticeable in the second half. I tried many combinations, and there are lots of good choices...
