Harmonic Trem Phasing Frequency

I know there is no such thing as the best or optimum in anything in the pedal world but I wondered if anyone had guidance on setting Low and High pass filtering on a harmonic trem.

I usually would go with 400Hz and 600hz as a starting point. I tried to mess about with different frequencies the other day and couldn’t find anything else I liked.

Any thoughts?

I assume (probably incorrectly) that the harmonic tremolo curious are mostly interested in the original Fender design ... if so the high pass filter corner frequency is about 636Hz and the low pass filter corner frequency is about 144Hz

@JamieJ I had them one notch further apart than factory for a while but then went back to stock because of how it interacted with the gain setting I’m using. I might try these settings tho to see what it sounds like. I love this pedal but man I wish it was smaller lol

I tried to to set it at 800hz and 200Hz and thought it sounded better initially but when I put it back together it sounded worse. I’m going to try and see what 600/200Hz and 700/200Hz sound like. I’ll compare them against the factory setting as well.

Did you try out the calibration option to test them individually? I didn’t when I messed about with it last so I might try it this time.

So when I first built it the test points would not give me a reading no matter what I tried 🤷‍♂️

I ended up tuning it by ear once I soldered over the pads. A little annoying but it still works great

Notes I took a while ago (may be wrong but it's easy to check). I wrote down to socket the LP filter capacitor, as it seems to be the one that changes the most between various tremolos. To my ears the Twin Peaks tremolo sounds the best. The Cardinal tremolo may be more authentic though (closer to the Fender values)

LP filter
- Twin Peaks tremolo: 660Hz
- Cardinal tremolo: 150Hz

HP filter
- Twin Peaks tremolo: 780Hz
- Cardinal tremolo: 720Hz
