I have used a LED LDR coupler I designed and 3D printed in a couple of my pedals now. They seem to work really well and I can test the pedals outside of an enclosure. I recommend printing them in black as every other color I have tried leaks light. I thought some of the other people here who are 3D printer inclined might also enjoy using it.
