Recommendations for Rockman X100 Stereo output mixed to mono conversion?

Hello all

First time poster here and just to mention while I know a bit about this stuff, I am hardly an expert so please forgive any basic or stupid questions.

So after looking for years for just the right offering, I just bought a used Rockman X100 Rev 10 unit that is in great shape, that per its serial number is suspected to have been built around 1991.

For this I have tested the unit to my guitar amp for all its operations via the way the instructions describe of using its Low Level output with the ¼ jack pulled out one notch, and for this everything is working as it should.

With this though, I have seen others using the same unit on youTube where they are using one of the stereo headphone outputs where for one its clear he is using a costly mixing device, but for others I am not sure if they are doing this to two amps like the instructions suggest, or are just connecting the R/L outputs, or are doing this in some other way.

But with either way it seems like they feel its sounds great and even better this way.

My concerns though is that if it even works where you just connect the R/L outputs, that over time and given the age of its parts, this might somehow damage the unit.

Which given what it is and how long I have looked for just the right one, I certainly do not want to do that.

Guess I would say too the other option of a $500.00 mixer is not my choice either.

So just thought I would asks here if anyone knows of what would be the right way to mix these channels down to a mono and in a way no harm can come to the X100, and also hopefully in a way that does not cost to much or need any fancy equipment to do that.

Thanks for any help.

It's safe to use the low level 1/4" output with a simple mono cable and just call it a day. Shorting the unused Channel to ground in this fashion does not harm the unit at all. Don't do this with the 1/8" headphone output though.

There is a subtle difference between the L and R outputs: one channel has more Chorus dialed in and the other one has less. You can buy a cheap 1/4" Y splitter (1 stereo male jack to 2x mono females) and plug into the channel that you prefer.
