Long story short: I had the urge a year or so ago to build a MIJ DS-1 from scratch. I traced the layout from the 1978 version, omitting the switching section; it's considerably smaller than the original. I sourced some TA7136APs from Retroamplis, but either those are bad or there is an issue with my layout that I just can't seem to find. It passes sound (the volume and tone seem to work correctly), but it's splatty/gated/distorted; I can only get that sound if I POUND the strings.
I've got a 7-SIP-to-8-DIP adapter plugin board on the way so I can try other ICs; that SHOULD rule out whether or not my layout is sound.
In the event that it is, and the 7-SIP ICs I have are no good, does anyone know of a reliable store/source for TA7136s?
