Sunflower (GE Surface) Bias mod question

I'd like to build a Sunflower where the sundial can take the bias from sputtering/gating to smooth sustain. I am thinking of changing the bias trim from 5k to 1k, then using a b15k or b20k pot as the sundial. Anyone ever tried moding one that way? Or is there another way of doing it that I am not thinking of?

I don't know how you can predetermine the range you will need, I would think it would depend a lot on the transistors you end up using. if I wanted to go this route I'd try it on a breadboard and see what the minimum and maximum resistance I wanted would be and then see what the closest thing I can work up is.
