BlackVibe Trinity MoJo

Ever since @Harry Klippton knocked it out of the park with his trinity build I have had the itch. Trinity is totally out of stock of kits. Mojo seems so blah so I’ve been looking at the BlackVibe total diy and went as far as pricing out all the parts just to see. Around $750 not including the wood to build a cab. Or the tubes. And now I’m back to “man, is it worth the $$ to drop just to build one?” Of course it is?

You guys that have had the honor of building out amps, any regrets or all love?

I had a really good idea of what I wanted out of an amp build and the TC15 ticked all the boxes for me. Plus, once I had put all that effort and love into it, it's more meaningful than something I bought. Make sure you're gonna be happy with the results and don't make any compromises in function, aesthetics, or components. That only makes it more expensive and frustrating when you have to go back to make changes and get what you want. You're certainly capable!

Also I only skimmed the Robinette page you linked, but just saw that he was referencing classic tone transformers, who unfortunately went out of business last year or in 2020. Make sure you can source transformers for the build before you start buying other parts @Dan0h !

For sure. I priced out Hammond transformers. But looked at others as well.

In that price range and feature set I opted for a vintage bandmaster. That said, I've done the DIY amp route as well and you'll sink serious coin into it but you will get exactly what you want. The Princeton Reverb was the most challenging and rewarding amp I built.

It's really such a shame that classic tone went out of business. Once that happened I was more hesitant to build some new amps. The one amp I built with a Hammond set I don't love but that could also be the fact that I'm using a Mojotone design (18 watt TMB), which has been criticized a ton. Of the 7 amps I've built, 5 are classic tone, 1 is Mojotone, and the other is Hammond.

I'm happy that I have an almost complete classic tone set for an JTM45. If only I could find reasonable NOS kt66s and a gz34....

Edcor would be a solid option if they had multi-tap output transformers. I don't like being stuck with a single output impedance

What did you build? When CT was an option I couldn't fathom spending double on trannys but at this point it's actually a thought.
Still a WIP...I had to crate it up for lack of workspace. It's an 18w 74-TMB. Nothing too bold, but I've been sourcing nice bits and pieces here and there. I've got the head / speaker cab built and ready to finish as well.
