If you've been following my Tele escapades here and here, you'll know that I found a seller on Reverb that is selling incredibly good Tele and Strat necks at a ridiculously low price.
I wound up getting 3 necks for him for 2 guitars (there's two kinds of people in the world, those that can count...)
On top of that I have a custom neck being crafted by the very expensive elves at Warmoth that's nowhere near in sight yet.
So I actually have TWO extra Tele necks. Since the Warmoth neck is a ways out yet, I'm hatching some plans for that one that may or may not happen this year.
Might be a longer term Tele project.
So what to do with this extra neck? It's another fabulous neck from this seller. If you put anything on your watchlist he'll send you a discounted offer.
The most expensive neck I think I paid $118 for. Again, super high quality necks and his nitro finishes are flawless. Necks come with frets leveled and crowned.
Fret ends need some dressing to my tastes on two of the necks. The neck profiles are a perfect fit for me. A full-ish Fender-C shape. A bit fatter than a stock Fender neck.
Anyway, I've been loving the way my Red Tele plays so much that I decided to replace the neck on my Thinline Tele. The Thinline currently has a Warmoth neck but I bought an "in stock" neck with what they call their "standard thin" profile. Well their "standard thin" is REAL thin. I think it's like .80 under the first fret.
I can play it but I really don't enjoy playing it. I've been mulling over swapping necks for a while now.
So this one is finished with a vintage tint Satin nitro.
The slab rosewood board is very nice looking.
Note a huge fan of MOP inlays, I personally prefer clay dots but it's a minor niggle.
Frets ends are dressed but will need a bit of touch up for me as well rolling the fingerboard.
Working on adding my headstock logo as with the other two necks. Misting the decal with a bit of nitro to keep it from running.
My color inkjet printer is crapping out, the blacks don't look real black to me. But I have whole freaking 8x11 page of these....
Once it gets on the headstock you can't really tell anyway.
THIS is why trying to finish a body in nitro in Florida is so challenging....particularly humid day today. See the "blush" in the finish.
We'll have to see how it sets up overnight to see if I need to sand it back off or not. Once it gasses off I'll move it indoor to my office and let it dry.
If all goes well, I'll put 3 more coats on tomorrow and it should be done. Really looking forward to installing this on my Thinline!
The specs on this one, medium jumbo frets (he calls them Jumbo in the description though). 9.5 Radius. .87" under the first fret .93 under 12th. These specs are just about PERFECT for me. (And incidentally very close the AllParts neck specs).
