Solid core hook up wire…..

I use silicone insulated wire, whatever’s on amazon. It’s so much nicer to work with than the PVC. Zero burning or melting, looks fantastic.
I’ve got some XLPE insulated wire I bought for a repair on a car I had. 20 awg/50V/GXL in like 6-8 colors. I should use it for pedals. I think XLPE doesn’t melt easily if I remember correctly.

I just use Tayda 24gauge stranded. I don't have many problems with it. I don't seem to need to make 90 degree bends A majestically sweeping bend works for me. I used to use solid core but got annoyed with it snapping at the joint. Easier to get a cold joint too. Keep your soldering iron tip relatively clean and it's fine. Tin before every joint.

Sure, sometimes you get a bit of meltage but I don't mind tidying it up. I like teflon coated wire but it's harder to strip.

I use it for everything, just picked up 200' of solid core 20ga in yellow and purple for heater wires. If you want to save money, go to https://www.apexjr.com/

You have to communicate through email and send a check or give him your credit card number, but I've been getting wire from him for 20 years..... The LOWEST prices I've ever seen, huge selection.

Edited: It does not come on rolls, I had to roll this by hand, took about 40 minutes while I watched TV and imbibed tasty beverages late at night. I tested a couple small pieces to see how it'll look in an amp. I like it..... lol

He sells on eBay too, where you can just use PayPal: https://www.ebay.com/itm/174284212923

For those of you who didn't post which gauge you use, what is your preference?

(I see among the people who did between 18-24 awg).

With solid core I like 22, but with the pre-bond wire I like 24.

22 ga will actually handle all of the current in a high voltage amplifier, it's rated for more than that! I use to use 18ga on the heater wires but it's insanely hard to bend into intricate shapes. I use 20 on the heaters now and 22 on the rest of the amp except for grounding I still use 18ga. You want a HIGHWAY to ground to help prevent ground loops.

I will never use anything but silicone again. You can strip it with your fingernail and it doesn’t melt!
I like to use teflon because it is so thin and still is rated 600+v. Basically I like the esthetics. I like to use color coordinated capacitors where possible too, lol. And it's shiny and slick. And the wire is silver plated. I don't know why, but I really like silver plated wire. lmao.

I have POUNDS of mustard caps but I'm literally shelling out $45 for these pretty blue capacitors for the Bassman I'm building. Hey, I'm retired and love eating cheap food that's easy and fast to make. I have to spend my money SOMEWHERE..... 🤣

Worth it to me. Only time I ever use solid core is for tube heaters, so 50' is like a lifetime supply.;)
I'm used to dealing with him. The first time I ordered he shipped it before I even signed the check. After that I trusted him so I just send the cc number.... I check my bank and cc balance daily, and have disputed a few charges - all from "The L.A. Times" trying to resubscribe me without permission. I called the the last time to find out why and they said "Your wife called us and ordered it". I said "How is that possible since she died 18 months ago?". They hung up on me.....

I have a PayPal slush fund that my wife never sees or cares about. 'Nuff said.

Wow now I need to find some silicon purple stranded wire in the UK. I've only ever been able to get wire with insulation that'll melt if you look it funny over here.
