Shoot out here at Sweetwater.

I definitely like the Low Wind CustomBuckers the best, but they're also the priciest at over $500 a set.

But the Low Wind 57 Classics also sound really good and are a close second at almost 1/2 the price.
I may need to check them out at some point.

I like the P90's as well, very reasonable priced (for Gibson).

Interesting move.
 
Months ago I was randomly watching the Anderton's youtube channel and they were doing a show on Les Pauls. They were comparing one Danish Pete had to one Lee Anderton had and when they switched to Pete's Les Paul my ears perked up because it sounded so cool. His had Custombuckers in it I'm pretty sure, but I went back weeks later trying to find that section of the clip and never figured it out again.

Yah I definitely think it's the pickups on Pete's that's making the biggest difference. They sound slightly lower output, maybe underwound.

I'm not sure if the R8 pickups are being potted by default, but I would not be surprised if Pete's pickups were not potted.
Pete's pickups have a bit more clarity and open-ness, even over Youtube. They also have a bit more character.

Do the Murphy aged ones use CustomBuckers?
 
I really like a lot of Gibson's pickups these days. I have a 2018 CS Les Paul and the pickups are perfect - the bridge in particular is incredible. It's easily the brightest Les Paul pickup I've heard but bright in a very good way. It also has a beautiful midrange to it which makes you want to keep playing.

One of my favourite guitars right now is a USA Epiphone Casino I bought at the beginning of the year. It has fairly low-wind P90s although they're not quite as low wind as those in my 2015 ES-225RI. The Casino is an incredible sounding guitar. No wonder the Beatles loved them. It can do shimmery arpeggio stuff or fat bluesy gronk. It has a huge dynamic range and is a lot of fun to play. It can get very tough sounding - it's not just an indy rock jangly thing. And the pickups are perfectly matched to the guitar. I never feel that I want to change them for anything else.
